Score at Lunch?

101-4 off 29 overs

Trumper 44*
Waugh 3*

Tate 5 0 11 0
Anderson 6 0 19 1
Botham 8 1 33 1
Barnes 9 3 17 2
Compton 1 0 4 0

A promising start for England but Trumper's beginning to look very comfortable and Waugh looks like he's bedding in for a long stay. The ball's still doing a bit though so they've got to be feeling optimistic. Will they regret leaving out a frontine spinner? We saw an over of Compton just before lunch but all that happened was that Trumper crashed a rank long hop through point.

England have to bat on a fourth innings pitch against Warne - so they'd want a decent lead.

It's been steady progress after lunch. Anderson and Tate are back on and the ball still occasionally beating the bat but Trumper and Waugh are digging in. Trumper is on 49 and Waugh has reached double figures

115-4

Tate's economy is admirable but is he actually challenging the batsmen?

No, he's bang on the money but he hasn't got the pace to cause any problems. Barnes hasn't either but he has a box of tricks that Tate hasn't got

Australia still pushing on 131-4

Trumper got his 50 with a flick down to long leg and celebrated in the next over with a glorious cover drive off Tate.

And Waugh has just flicked a half-volley of Anderson through mid-wicket for four and followed it up with a push drive through mid-off for two

That's 137-4 and the 50 partnership

Aaah! This is pure fiction: Jimmy doesn't bowl any half-volleys.

This isn't sounding good, I reckon 250 is a decent score on this pitch...

Waugh's beginning to enjoy himself now. Botham has replaced Tate and he's been for two successive fours.

And Trumper's stroking the ball around, he doesn't have the power of Waugh but he's picking the gaps with ease.

Australia have passed the 150 now. It's 155-4 (Trumper 61* Waugh 35*)

This is going horribly wrong. Waugh has just driven Botham uppishly through mid-off for four. It was in the air for a while but there was no-one there.

And in the next over, Waugh has got an inside edge down to fine-leg off Anderson, who's not happy. He's even unhappier after the next ball as Compton lets it through his hands for another four. Anderson looks daggers and there's some tea-potting going on now.

Australia are looking more comfortable now 169-4. Waugh approaching his 50 with 48*

It gets from bad to worse. Trumper, who hasn't put a foot wrong all game, misjudges an outswinger from Barnes (who's replaced Anderson) and Cook drops it at slip. It was travelling and slightly to his right, so it wasn't a goober, but it should have been caught. To make matters worse, Trumper eases the next ball through the covers for four

176-4 (Trumper 68* Waugh 49*)

Give the ball to Stokes FFS! He always makes something happen.

He is playing isn't he............?

Stokes is on for his first bowl of the game and the first ball is a bit of a loosener that Trumper drives through the covers. It looks a certain four but some brilliant chasing from Anderson, supported by Botham keeps it down to three.

Waugh now facing with one for his 50 and that's it, flicked off his pad down to fine leg for four.

No, the umpire has signalled leg byes so he has to wait.

WICKET! He tries to bring his 50 up in style by crashng it through the covers but Botham has been placed at a very short cover and takes a brilliant catch low down. That ball was travelling

183-5
