Hope to see a proper Hobbs innings tomorrow then our middle order rip them a new one in the afternoon.

The joy of cricket, you just don't know what is going to happen.

I'm writing it and I don't know what's going to happen

That's completely true, I had no idea how the day was going to shape up when I started this morning - the only thing I did have in my mind is that we've got a long lockdown so I think we need some five day tests that are going to last. It was tempting to have England skittle them out for 80 but it's going to be rather boring if they do that every game.

One thing I am going to change is the make-up of the Aussie team: England are limited to one player per county with no limitations for Aussies. So, from the next test, Australia can't have four New South Welshmen in the team. So looks like Thommo and Chappell are definitely going to be in

I was actually wondering if you were doing it off a cricket software package as it came over so accurate but if not I salute you- it has been superb so far and can't wait until day 2. Never thought I would witness a Trumper Century, maybe I'll get a Hobbs or Hammond one...

Tomorrow's game can be in real time (or near enough). I have a conf call in the middle so there may a bit of a lull

Screw work, we need the test match.

I have a feeling that Stokes and/or Both will have a say in the outcome.

It's already a cracking match.

I'm assuming as well as two teams of players from across the eras we also have a commentary team from across the ages as well?

Morning everyone, whats the weather like at Trent Bridge?

A bit cloudy, although the forecast is for it to clear by noon. There was a heavy overnight dew so the wicket may be a bit lively first thing but, if England can survive the first hour unscathed, it looks a decent batting track.

One thing that may worry England. I hear there was a bit of a post-mortem last night as there was a bit of unhappiness that England let Australia off the hook. I gather there were some heated exchanges between Barnes and Hammond and that, later on, Barnes and Anderson had to be separated after a fiery confrontation. I think the selectors are only grateful that they replaced Pietersen with Gower otherwise the UN may have had to be called in. We have to hope that England make a decent start as there are some underlying tensions in this team.

Yes Barnes has an attitude problem, perhaps Deadly, Swann or Laker in for the next Test to let him cool down?

A bit of cloud cover as McGrath gets us under way this morning. He’s right on the money from the first ball. Hobbs is anxious to get him away but can’t do anything with bowling this accurate: a maiden to start.
England 28-0 8 overs

(I have something to finish this morning so updates won't be as regular as yesterday - but will pick up if something happens)

Of course, I met and had a brief conversation with his brother at my Dentists in Pulborough a few years ago, he looked very similar but sounded EXACTLY the same, a bizarre experience.

CMJ is a lovely bloke, I sat in the desk next to him at my brief stay at The Cricketer and he was exceptionally friendly with plenty of good advice. I was an unpaid intern but he paid for my travel fare and lunch out of his own pocket - he didn't have to do that.

After the fireworks of last night, it’s been a steady start at Trent Bridge. Lillee hasn’t built up a head of steam yet but has still moved a couple away from Cook. The only scare for England was when a think outside edge from Cook flew between Smith and Miller in the slips for four. Hobbs slightly misjudged a ball from McGrath and it was in the air for a while, but fell well short of Trumper at mid-on.
England 42-0 (Cook 19 Hobbs 9) 14 overs
