England will qualify.

Win on Friday, Draw on Tuesday, and then win remaining home games.

Then go to Brazil, scrape out of the group by winning the last game, win in the round of 16 thus enabling a weekend of red tops proclaiming we're going to win the World Cup, followed by a tame exit in the quarter finals enabling the self same tabloids to proclaim we are useless.

On penalties.

Exactly. There are 200 or so countries in the world and only eight have EVER won it. Next year, 31 will go home disappointed. I can't really get my head around why anyone would not care if England qualified or not on the basis that we won't win it. The World Cup is the premier sporting event on this planet, it is four weeks of utter football joy. Even if you told me that England were going to lose all three group games without scoring a goal I still want us there.

The boy badger speaks sense. This.

So far so good.

I disagree. Ronaldo is a great player but if you took him out of the Portugal national team they would undoubtably still qualify for major tournaments. Sweden without Ibra on the other hand...

Portugal only beat a ten-man Luxembourg side (player sent off after half an hour) at home 3-0 last night. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't play. Imagine the media in this country after that sort of result. They'll certainly need him back for the play-offs......
