'Shit' is a word that is multifunctional, especially in America but it depends on context. If something is good it's 'The Shit'. If some is bad it's 'Shit'. Possessions are his, her, your their or our 'shit'. In some paces shit is another name for dope. However, put an 'E' on the end and it's plain old crap.

"Fag" a good old English word for the heinous drug a cigarette. Used hatefully in the USA.

"Dyke" a good old English word for a mound of earth, especially above Brighton. Now cortesy of the US misspelt as an of-limits mound...

"Fruit" a good old English word for a comestible. Now an American insult.

Why can't they leave English alone, the retards?

And Faggot is either a delicious meatball, or a wood for starting a bonfire.

And before that used as a term whereby a Junior boy at Public School had to do the bidding of a senior pupil (see Tom Brown's Schooldays) regarding minor tasks.

Awful - used to mean the same as 'awesome'.

if you look up the etymology, the origins of awe suggest it is "awesome" that has changed meaning. eitherway, i cant stand the trite misuse of awesome by kids today.

No it's not, it's a ditch or cutting, which is what the Brighton one is. It can also refer to the levees either side of a cutting.

You could say the same for many areas of the North. The use of English in Liverpool is truly baffling to me as is the use of English in various other parts of the world...Australian English is equally bad/good as the way Americans use it. I think it is a little harsh to single out just the Septics.

Anybody from outside the Sussex borders really should not speak out loud, unless you are an extremely good looking, firm bodied, 25 year old Welsh girl...now that, is pleasing to the ears and eyes.

Gay is the most interesting one.

Happy / Homosexual / Rubbish

I remember a facebook group that didn't like that it had become a synonym for 'rubbish' (in some people's usage). I think if it can be socially engineered (though still a natural process) one way, it can go the other. Words are not anyone's property.

Interesting though. Wanker can now mean 'top bloke, intelligent and large of penis' also. I am called a wanker often.

The name of Colours is another incidence. Red means left wing or socialist. Green means ill or inexperienced. Blue means sad or pornographic. Black is another word that changes it's meaning completely depending on context. A 'black day' is very bad but being 'in the black' is good. Yellow means cowardly, grey means grim. There are more I'm sure.
