This seems to have slipped pretty much under the radar today in the wake of the seismic changes that have taken place overnight:

Brexit: Spain calls for joint control of Gibraltar

The Spanish government has called for joint sovereignty over Gibraltar in the wake of the UK's vote to leave the EU.
The British overseas territory of 30,000 voted overwhelmingly for remain, with 95.9% opting to stay in the union.
"The Spanish flag on the Rock is much closer than before," Spain's acting Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said on Friday.
Gibraltar has been a British territory since 1713 but Spain continues to claim sovereignty over the enclave.
At the entrance to the Mediterranean, Gibraltar relies heavily on its shared EU border with Spain for trade.
In a radio interview, Mr Garcia-Margallo said: "It's a complete change of outlook that opens up new possibilities on Gibraltar not seen for a very long time.
"I hope the formula of co-sovereignty - to be clear, the Spanish flag on the Rock - is much closer than before."

First major flashpoint looming for the UK and it's soon-to-be former European economic partners - and sooner rather than later?

The other flashpoint will be Northern Ireland. They voted overwhelmingly to remain, and it would be incredibly simple to open the borders there and for NI to rejoin the Republic of Ireland.

Incredible upheaval. Just incredible.

Given the (unsurprising) massive vote remain I would imagine that there will be a resistance for any handing over of the rock. Spain will make it incredibly difficult now though with just periodically shutting off the border.

Hopefully they'll pay the price for being too greedy with all their companies based over there - a haven for the wealthy and not paying taxes. It was 96% for remain.ing in the EU.Well Spain can have Gibraltar if that's the way they feel. It's a complete dump anyway. They have all the British shops like M&S, Burger King and Morrison's, great weather but the voting shows how out of touch they are with us.

And their football team will always be shit.

Would have serious implications for the EU fishing industry which would be caught between a rock salmon and a hard plaice.

Well played, Sir!

How, exactly, has anything changed?

Why not go further and hand the Falklands over to Argentina and other British overseas territories. Come to think of it as the voters of Brighton and Hove are so out of touch with 'us' where are you moving the city to France Belgium or elsewhere
