Seeing as Arsenal`s women`s team seem to be about the best around it got a few of us wondering as to what standard of mens football would they be fairly matched up with ?
Wondered what NSC felt.

A difficult one. I'm sure they could hold their own against a county league side or perhaps above that. Fitness, skills, passing ability, shooting are on a par at times. But I yet to see a decent female goalkeeper. That would be a huge weakness.

This is a world cup tournament, I believe. La creme de la creme.

I`ve heard 2 experts on 5 live today say that the top Scottish sides would not compete with the top Championship sides nowadays. Quite sad really when you remember how good some of them were during the 60`s to the 80`s.

Anyway back to the ladies. County League ? No way BOF. I reckon Worthing league 4 or 5.

Pointless comparison as the physical side of it is completely different. They would simply get battled out of challenges (not to mention the occasional bloke wanting to prove a point by putting in a few leg-breakers).

I played football for about twenty years and I never ever heard any female player wanting to play in the men's game. They just want to be good at their own game, and at the top level (alright, goalkeepers accepted) they are pretty good at it.

Its weird that women goalkeepers specifically, are so poor, when surely its the one position where (bar taking goalkicks) physical strength isn't a factor.

Keepers are poor as women can't catch.

Players are crap as women mince when they run

Standard wise you got to be looking at county league standard.

Que the PC brigade who will feel the need to untwist knickers for the current NSC vogue of being sufforragettes

:laugh::clap2:

You'll get banned for saying such things!!

My wife's cousin plays for Rep of Ireland women's U21's. Watched her play and fitness levels were pretty good but that was it.

I played county league level and can assure you not one of those girls would cut it at that level.

Height is one issue for women goalkeepers- you rarely find a male keeper below six feet tall, whereas your average woman in this country is, what, 5'5"? So, inevitably, they get beaten by shots in the top of the goal a lot more.

And I think there must be some physiological reason why men seem to spring more easily than women (weight distribution? Muscle tone? I have no idea) because you just don't get the women flying into the top corner to make a save.

I played in goal for years, by the way, I can catch bloody well and I would fancy my chances of being a better keeper than Dougal :wink:
