Is it just me who has noticed this annoying phenomenon of people using the plural 'women' to mean the singular 'woman'? Seems to crop up on social media all the time and have noticed it on here a few times. Example sentence from Facebook today: "Happy birthday to my Mum, she has gone through so much and is such an inspirational women"

Surely this isn't difficult. Wo-MAN: singular, Wo-MEN: plural

Am I just being an oversensitive Grammar/spelling pedant?

Yep and in the above example 'mum' is capitalised, which you'd only do if 'Mum' started the sentence. Bloody thickos.

Or if you removed "my".

You should also capitalise it if addressing your mother - "Dear Mum", for instance, not "Dear mum" - and should also be capitalised if used in the first person, as in "Love from Mum".
