Population of Reading last weekend = 250,000
Population of Reading Womad weekend = 270,000
Population of Reading on Festival weekend = 330,000

Its a f***ing nightmare. I drove 3 miles in 6 hours once on festival weekend during the rush hour on a Thursday evening. Stuck at Cemetary Junction (not a nice area) for about 2 hours of that.

And they always postpone our home matches, otherwise its even more of a nightmare.

And the festival goers are scum...

But I probably wouldn't say that if they were in someone else's place.

I normally go to WOMAD as I work with a lot of World Music artists (not this year though). Yes the traffic is pretty snarled up, but mostly the festival goers seem to be pretty normal and well behaved if a little bit too "sun-dried tomato" for me. WOMAD w/end is normally a scorcher, (so I normally end up looking like a sun dried tomato - more shade needed!) but this year for once the weather looks like being poor. Wouldn't necessarily like it on my doorstep though - sorry Reading for contributing to the traffic snarl-up in previous years!

I love Womad (not going this year though)

Don't be such a whingebag, think of the money that the festivals bring to Reading.

And I'd love it even more...top music on my doorstep, who could ask for anything better?

OK, it brings in a bit of cash, but when you consider that the local economy brings in more GDP than far bigger places like Manchester, Birmingham, and Newcastle, its not all that much in comparison. The real-estate and Oracle shopping/bars bring in massive amounts of money, as do all the local FTSE100 firms with their HQs. The amount of workers in the place has expanded so much that even BT couldn't cope (!) and so we've got (0118) as the phone number as there's more than a million phones in the place. The impact of the festivals isn't that large. However, what it does bring is "character", which is one thing we are well renowned for lacking in vast quantities!

I like the festivals too, I'm just being a selfish bastard regards to traffic and wanting to go shopping on a Saturday ;)
