Perth, I'm not picking on you - but this comment always confuses me.
"Par" in golf is "expeted number of shots for the hole. So if par is 4 and you take 3 shots, you are "under par" (a birdie in this instance) which is GOOD. If you took 5 shots on a par 4 (a bogey) this is BAD.
So the comment "sub par performance" actually means we are playing BETTER than standard - although whenever this comment is used in this way it is supposed to mean we are playing WORSE.
Anyone know why the "par" statement is misused in this way?
