Anyone been on a 'tour' of Withdean.

Do you get to see the dressing room and all that ? Just wondering whether to set aside 5 or 10 mins for the full tour ;)

Not sure if still the case but the away dressing room was totally purple.

I remember hearing a report once about some away dressing rooms being painted all manner of colours in a bid to gain a psychological edge. Whatever colour our away dressing room is at the mo, it obviously aint working

I had a tour around the Nou Camp last week (which I recommend should you ever be over there) and the away team dressing room was a proper shit hole.

As an aside, I also had a look around Espanyol's stadium (the one used for the '92 Olympics) that was empty apart from a horde of about 15-20 cats roaming about.

One of the best and funniest books I have ever read (honestly) was Gullhanger - in which a very, very funny account of the Withdean Tour was described.......

A great book - I would advise anyone to read it..Albion or
otherwise.

(precis: about an Arsenal fan who moves to Brighton and gets the
Albion bug...)

Is Gullhanger by Ward? His pages in the Seagull were unfunny and extremely tedious. Worse than the football on show. Do us a favour and go back to Arsenal?

I wonder if he posts on here...

I can confirm the away dressing room is painted a lovely shade of purple, set off by a dirty plastic chair and an old table.

Imagine changing rooms with the budget set at a fiver.

Having also visited Barcelona's ground, there are also deliberately really shitty with a torn treatment table I seem to recall.

Real Madrid's are something else though, think 5 star hotel with expensive fittings.

As you can see I spend a lot of time in mens changing rooms.

I've read it, and have to agree that many people i know that have read it can't abide it.

BUT...it's an Albion book so it makes it worth reading. Unfortunately Mike Ward adorns it with SO much sarcasm (as is his nature being a TV critic), it's very difficult to read at times, even if you find sarcasm quite funny.

But... it's a positive book documenting the 01/02 season, so not all bad.

We did it years ago in Mickys succesfull rein, it showed how expensive and time consuming it was to play at Withdean. Every thing had to be out up and taken down on the day. All profits went to the French company owing the ground.

Best bits were the team training on the pitch, meeting Micky after the tour and Gary Hart getting heckled by Jock Riddell in the changing room for being my wife favorite player.

I imagine their is more to see now, Its the Falmer tour I want now :falmerspi

From having the misfortune of reading his programme column, Mike Ward probably has the most over-the-top and irritating use of sarcasm I've ever seen. I don't know where this guy came from but, and I say this honestly, I don't think I've ever read such a poor column written by someone who was apparently told he had a sense of humour at some point - he doesn't.

A Charlton supporting friend, commented once how lucky we were that we have so many titles printed about the Albion, for a club of our size I can remember quite a few;

Vine books on our rise to the 1st Division

Tim Carders superb books on players and A-Z of the Albion

Stewart Weirs More than 90 minutes

Build a Bonfire by Stephen North

Gullganger by Mike Ward

On this Day in history by Dan Tester

A few good men by Spencer Vignes

The First 100 years by Paul Camillin

Just to name a few, I am glad people have made the time to write them, I will always take the time to buy them and read them, any I have missed that I shoud add to my colletion.
