Wireless help please

Right, my laptop's being gay, i dont think the wireless switch is on- where might i find it??

yeah, but i keep getting thye message that 'no wireless networks are within range' and im sitting next to my pc that has wireless internet......

theres nothing in network connections to turn on my wireless switch

If your PC tells you there's no signal, it's your router that has the problem. Have you been tinkering with the router configurations?

Most wireless laptops will auto search for any networks and list them whether they are secuity protected or not. As above, if there is nothing in range then your router might not be configured correctly

well, dont think so- thing is the lap top normally picks up 2 or 3 connections, but now it cant find any!

I assume it's a PC. If it's a Mac, you need to switch Airport on.

If it's a PC, ignore that.

When my laptop had the same problem some weeks ago, switching the router on / off didn't solve it. But using a paperclip to press and hold the "reset" button on the router for about 5 seconds did the trick.

Pain in the arse that one. I have a smiliar problem, I have a wireless router and a wireless laptop - cannot connect the 2 together but can happily sneak onto my unsuspecting neighbours router.

Try taking the laptop upto the nearest pub that you know offers free wireless broadband, if it works there automatically then you know its not the laptop - and hey presto you also get a good excuse for a quick pint!!

Notebooks usually have a mechanical pushbutton or switch to turn/off wireless facility. Can be fairly obvious, as pushbutton on Samsung X05, alongside others below screen, or rather anonymous, as Toshiba Qosmio, which has a very small slider just below the indicator lights on front edge. In both these examples you see an indicator light when on.

This means you can quickly block any wireless traffic if you are not certain of your security settings, and may be at risk from somebody trying to view your machine, or to make use of your broadband connection.

Perhaps you have turned it off without realising?
