Hark now hear the Brighton sing........

"it's a most, wonderful time, of the year"

But I like choirs doing carols, and going to a nice rural church on Christmas Eve for the specialness of the atmosphere - the smell of the wooden pews, sprays of evergreen, and candle wax. The low light, and the strange simple elation of the vicar, reveling in the occasion and the full house, and the mix of well dressed-up children suppressing their excitement, and local farmers - it's an experience to relish as much as the pub crowds beforehand, the still morning afterwards, and the fizz of the fat inside the oven the next day.

Bono singing with a straight face 'Thank God it's them instead of you'. Nice. Or maybe Roy Wood booting that little kid off stage when the snowman brings the snow. Ah! The Magick of Xmas! It's what Jesus and all his little elves would have wanted.
