Will there be a Swindon Town left to play?

ANDREW Fitton's Town takeover bid is on the brink of collapse, the Swindon Advertiser understands.

A statement is due to be released later today confirming that Fitton's protracted attempt to purchase the County Ground outfit is doomed to failure.

The news will throw fresh question marks over Town's immediate future with mountains of unpaid debts threatening to send the club out of business.

Some of the fans' comments on the Swindon Advertiser article are really depressing. Seems from one that this would be the third time that the club has gone into administration and under FL rules this results in expulsion from the Football League not just a 10pt deduction?

it's a ridiculously complicated situation but the crux of it is that we owe creditors £900k in a CVA payment which was due at the end of july - it's still due and not a penny of it has been paid. we're effectively run by a former disqualified director who acts as an "advisor" to our biggest shareholder. needless to say, he's responsible for this mess.

in the past eighteen months there have been three takeover attempts by three seperate parties - former QPR chairman bill power & the supporter's trust, portuguese 'investment group' BEST Holdings and now local businessman andrew fitton. none of these have succeeded because of the greed of one man.

administration is not an option, the CVA supervisor would be forced to fail the CVA thus sending us into receivership. the HMRC wouldn't hesitate in slapping us with a winding-up order and it'd be game over by christmas.

sadly the vast majority of our fans are so apathetic that by the time they realise the severity of our situation, it'll be far too late. we've had protests, mock funeral processions and no end of other attempts to inform the fanbase and oppose the board but ultimately it's not enough to stop one man with a huge disdain for the club's supporters from destroying it.

It's very sad for Swindon, but I suspect this is the thin end of the wedge. There are probably 20-30 more clubs in a very similar position and perhaps many more who only survive because of the generosity of individuals.

With the coming economic downturn, how many of those people will reduce/withdraw their support? And what will the effect be? 10 years of economic buoyancy could have masked the true parlous state of many of the clubs outside the Premier League.

Having lived in Swindon for 3 years it would be a shame if they lose their club. I hope that they can survive this impending crisis

what a shite situation , i wasnt aware of this which probably speaks volumes for the lack of national coverage. With ourselves it took a game abandoment to really get it in the public eye. Keep fighting + all the best

Makes you wonder doesn't it ? When you look at how so many clubs have had a brief taste of the Premier League and then plummet. There's Bradford as well as Swindon with Teams like Huddersfield and Millwall who's top flight experience is far more recent than our own.

The way it's going you could see just Liverpool, Manure, Chelski (as long as their owner doesn't find a new hobby) and The Arse playing each other about ten times a season.

Remarkably similar to our situation with Archer! The simple fact is that that one man has to be targeted, harassed, got at in every legal way to the point where his/his family's desire to be left in peace outweighs his greed. Enough of your fanbase have to be mobilised to keep the pressure on and make sure that the wider football world is totally aware of your plight. As we did.
All the very best - but your fans need to wake up, as I'm sure you know.

.

This Director, is it Terry Brady, the father of Karen Brady of Birmingham City, who was involved with that respectable business man Terry Venables at Portsmouth

Truly sorry for your predicament pal.

I have people in Swindon who support (haha) Manu and Liverpool.

Brady's long gone. The director - or rather general manager - in question is Mike Diamandis.

The club have stated that we have "insufficient funds to continue trading"

Seems to be an admission of insolvency then so doesn't the club have to cease trading under company law - any NSC accountants on line?

All the best to you and Swindon fans, like Atilla and others have said, direct but legal(ish) action, make them know how much you care and that this individual should get lost.

It's a bit different now with the FA rules regarding points deduction etc, but keep the faith. Good Luck

Bournemouth are on the verge of going into administration.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bournemouth/7131374.stm

Leeds have had 15 points deducted. Luton have lost 10 points. Bournemouth are about to lose 10 points. Swindon could follow. What's going on? I fail to see how a club with a recent history like Albion's is relatively secure financially, but clubs like Luton, Bournemouth and Swindon, which are supposed to be well-run, are in trouble.
