Depends on performance of the team, the ease or otherwise(real or imagined) of getting tickets, the price charged for the tickets and how difficult or easy it will be to get to and from the stadium.Too much hassle and delay could have a significant effect on attendances.
It will not be easy to build up the crowds to much more than 12/15,000 me thinks!
Attendances we enjoyed during the glory years at the Goldstone are a long way off,I reckon.

personally I think the first few games are critical.

there will be a huge groundswell of support, the first game will no doubt be sold out and that will be the litmus test.

If people will be able to get a ticket easily, be it at the ground or close to the ground, if people can get to the ground on trains that are regular and not rammed, if people can get near the ground to drop off people, or park, if people see a decent game of football with no hassle in the crowd, if people get away without too many queues....then people will keep coming.

The issue is that many people have got out the habit of going, the trick is to get these people back.

The only thing that would stop you going to Falmer is your dog's diet.

I mean, you made it to Villa didn't you?

I think he's referring to the thousands and thousands of new/floating fans. And he is spot on.

A "I might go down to Falmer this afternoon to watch.....erm...Brighton, that's it. Heard it's good down there."

B "Oh you can't, due to this, this and this etc."

A "Ah forget it then. That's stupid."

That conversation will be had countless times.

Pricing will be an issue, although anyone thinking it will be less than £20 is living in a dream world. Most places we go it is £20 or thereabouts and we will have to have the travel voucher too. A price freeze is probably the best we can hope for and if we get promoted next season I expect a price rise for Falmer.

The trains will be rammed if wittons anything to go by, but although some will moan, i dont actually mind cos that means the attendances will be large, dont mind hanging around a bit after the game, its the evening matches that could become a shit when you want to get home for bed/work that we`ll all get pissed off but i have no doubt that falmer station will resemble those you see in india where theyre all hanging off it!!

I think we should make it much much harder for fans to get tickets for Falmer. Then we can average 5000 to make us really feel at home, and we wont moan about "glory hunters" etc etc ....

beer for £2 quid a pint for just STH's .

Like the idea but surely that might deter casuals ? STH will turn up anyway regardless of the cost of beer. Whatabout a free beer for all non-STH's ?

There is no chance hat a football club with the city the size of Brighton plus other towns and a population of how many milllion will ever be able to sell 22K seats - not a hope, no chance, just doesnt make sense does it

Aston Villa were offering tickets for their game against Burnley for £17 for adults and even for Arsenal and Manchester United, tickets start at £19. That is exceptional value, though they do have a large number of seats to sell. Even Sunderland charge a minimum of £27 for category B games and £33 for category A games. Contrast these prices with West Ham who charged £40 minimum for category A games at the time we played them. I think we will have to charge some prices similar to Villa, perhaps in the North Stand (though that means we have to offer visiting fans the same prices), to get the place full up. I presume the West Stand Upper will be the most expensive, which will mean at least a third of the tickets at top price. Unless that area is taken up by season ticket holders, I can see it rapidly emptying if we are not playing well.

Although the majority of us are now geared up for getting tickets in advance, it is plainly ridiculous if they do not have a pay on the day system and it will definitely cost us thousands and thousands in lost revenue because of it, if they dont.

One of the main reasons to have a bloody good new stadium is to encourage as many people to come and fill it that havent see us before or for a while and you wont do that to its full potential if you cant buy tickets on a whim.

 quite, after all, the population of Sussex is tiny compared to Burnley (smaller than Eastbourne), Wigan (a rugby town), etc.

Prem teams get 90% of their money from tv, they could quite happily charge nothing.

Maybe 10 years ago but not now.How long have we been at Withdean and had to pay in advancce for a ticket? Times have moved on now.
Not having pay on the gate won't make a scrap of difference now especially with a new ground around the corner.

Is the correct awnser.
I think i'm right in saying you can't just turn up to most premiership matches and pay at the turnstyles/ticket office and as the years go on I believe this will be the case for the vast majority of clubs in the top two divisions. Many said they wouldn't go to matches when terraces were introduced but I suspect the majority bit the bullet and carried on going.

The current thinking is that you will be able to pay on the day, just not at Falmer itself. P&R booths have been suggested, also i'm sure there will be outlets at two or three train stations, plus the online facility.

Also for a first timer, a paper ticket will be issued, but a card will be sent to the ticket holders address for future matches which can be used via mobile phone or online to be activated for whatever match he/she wants to watch.

I'm sure there will be hiccups, but before long everyone will be in the groove and it will be second nature!

I am thinking if you make the potential STH a no Brainer . ie works out about £15 a match and another incentive to become a STH by discounting the beer you may well grab the attention of the 5-10 home games per season fan plus the Sussex based Prem fan who can no longer afford it going to the smoke.

You will still have enough tickets for the casual fan and he is hardly going to object at paying more gate fee and normal beer prices.

Obviously once the new STH'S get hooked the prices can rise in season above inflation.

Let's get the place as full as poss for EVERY match.

Only an idea maybe the figures just don't add up.

er it is pay on the gate at falmer, the club have said so, just as it is as / was at Leeds in the Premier, Millwall, Fulham and almost everywhere. Just that you buy the ticket at a booth instead of a turnstile. The question also was whether a club in a count of about a cople of million could sell 22K tickets and the answer is in the question

Not sure if your aiming this at me as you haven't quoted me, because i am actually answering the thread question.

BUT my opinion is YES we can sell 22k each and every week if we get a good base of STH's and my opinion again is that if the pricing is to high we will end up with half filled stadiums.

I maybe wrong.
