Will Sussex get relegated?

2nd to bottom now!

How many go down? How many games left? Can they turn it around?

What happened to the success we have enjoyed recently? Was it ALL down to Muzzie?

I don't think we'll go down.

I think Sussex have prioritised with the one-day competitions and a by-product of reaching 2 finals days is that we've not done so well in the Championship. That said, we've still got enough talent to stay up.

The younger players like H-B, Beer, Nash seem to be better suited to the one-day game and our Championship side is definitely weaker without the likes of not just Mushy but also the reduced contribution from Kirtley, Lewry and Tucker.

It's called 'doind a Kent'*, and it looks likely.

* after Kent's fall from FTP and 20/20 losing finalists to relegation on the last day of the season.

We've got 2 home games late in September - if the weather's good and we can get a couple of wins while Yorkshire and Worcs wallow in the wet we'll probably stay up.

The younger players like H-B, Beer, Nash seem to be better suited to the one-day game .

Don't know about that. Nash has been a mainstay of the CC side for a couple of years now and is doing OK. In fact, he's second in the Sussex averages. Beer is a leg-spinner, but stll a young one, I'm sure he'll come good - he's highly rated. H-B has been more used in one-dayers but don't forget that on his CC he scored a 50 against a top-class Durham attack when Sussex were under the cosh. He's got plenty of time still.

I think the real trouble for Sussex this season is that Goodwin has been so pony. He's been our main batsman for the last decade but has been terrible this year. We also signed Joyce to bolster the batting - which he has in the one-dayers - but has not really delivered in the CC. Their failures have put pressure on the other players.

I think we should be OK. We have a game in hand against Yorkshire and Warwickshire aren't all that much. But it will be close.

Still think Warwickshire and Worcestshire will go down. We've three winneable games at home, the rain-affected draw at Lancs to look forward to, a game in hand, and more importantly we don't have to play Durham again

Yes but the 50 looked more easier than it should be as the had an attacking field

Are you talking about Hamilton-Brown's 50? I don't think it's easier because the field's an attacking one - in fact, I'd say it was harder. I'd say it's easier to score runs quickly but not so easy to survive.

In fact, in that first innings he scored exactly twice as much as Yardy, Hopkinson, Goodwin, Prior and Wright did altogether. In fact, I can't quite understand why he hasn't been given many chances in the CC - he has a FC average of 31 - perfectly respectable for a 21-year-old.

I think he should be playing more in the CC, instead of Rayner in games when spin's not gonna be that important and instead of Goodwin unless he scores in tomorrow's match. Goodwin is a class batsmen but he's been so poor in the CC this season, even worse than Adam's was last year

Pionts mean prizes, last year 155 points would have kept you up (we have 84 at present), Yorkshire and Sussex both finished above the drop zone on 159.

7 games left and we need about 60-70 points I reckon, 14 points for a win 4 a draw and then we need to average 3-5 bonus points a game played. My guesstimate is just under 60 points so squeaky bum time and pray the lower order can get us some extra bonus points with bat and ball.

Worcestershire is a must win av 18
Yorkshire at home av 17
Notts at Horsham rain and draw av 6
Lose at Somerset 3
Draw Lanky rain 4
Lose Warwickshire 3
Draw Notts rain 4

Games played and pionts at present are;

5 Warwickshire 9 100.0
6 Hampshire 9 92.0
7 Yorkshire 10 85.0
8 Sussex 9 84.0
9 Worcestershire 10 52.0

As i said before the Durham game, I don't think Rayner should have played. He's been very disappointing this season - he's supposed to be our lead spinner, yet has 9 wickets at 53 runs. He needs a dose of reality.

I'd drop Goodwin for H-B and Rayner for Tucker for the next game and tell Goodwin to try to find some form in the Seconds and Ollie to sort out his head.

Yasser has also been disappointing. You expect your overseas player, if a strike bowler to deliver on the Michelles but he's taken a grand total of 6 wickets in 3 games - not good enough.

I have just noticed that although Yorkshire are above us by one point they have not won a game and as already mentioned we have a game on them.

So it would follow they are struggling to bowl sides out, I imagine Rana is injured then.

We just dont look like we can take 20 wickets in a match. I thin kthe batting is relatively fine. We have scored maximum points a few times (Durham just bowl everyone out all the time) - in fact have we taken 20 wickets at all this season??

It is time Hamilton-Brown got a go as he usually impresses in the one day stuff. Maybe our problem is that we have focused too much on getting the one-day treble, that we have forgotten about the Championship. We still play like we are playing one day cricket in the Championship. The run rate is normally fast and we seem to get out playing ridiculous shots - but it does seem to be effective getting batting points.

As least the fast batting gives us more time to bowl teams out, just we cant seem to do it. Yasir has been disappointing as has been said before and he is our main strike bowler. We have lots of steady seamers, but not anyone that can take a glut of wickets (only Pushy managed it)

As for relegation, I think we will survive by getting draws and maximum batting points. But we wont more than just survival!

I'd like to see us take a gamble, prepare Bunsens for all the remaining home games and back Rayner and Beer to bowl the opposition out.
I'd also like to see Sandri get a chance.
