Kraftwerk. Surely one of the most influencial bands of all time? Can you believe Autobahn was released in 1974?

Always thought they were shit personally as was Gary Numan who I assume was influenced by them?

I guess I'm not a fan of electronic music

Have quite a few German friends; been there loads of times. - Berlin is the best European city by some way IMHO

Berlin took my breath away.

I had a German girlfriend when I was at university. We were an item for two years until I went to the College of Law, in London, dropped out halfway through the course, and was dumped for lacking ambition.

This is a photo of the lady.

I never got over her. Fifteen years on, I think I’m still in love with her. But such is life.

German wimmins can be a trifle cold. I think it's their tendency to form cliques as children, that lasts until they are adults.
They can also be great fun though, when you get them out of that security bubble.
Germans and English often form good, lasting friendships. You can rely on them to be the same about the friendship, even if you don't hang out for a while.
They are usually easy-going, and 'just-dropping-in' on them is not treated as a disaster by them when it happens.

In general, as a nation, they remained long apologetic about the World Wars. Most were ashamed to have fallen in line, and their children are determined to never let it happen again - and to repair relations with people who will allow them (some don't allow them). This humility is admirable, ultimately, so that their efforts to be likeable with people who are open to it - often succeed.

They are extremely honest, and will personally police their own social structure.
I once got on a bus - with my valid ticket - but didn't know I had to stamp the ticket on entry. The WHOLE BUSLOAD of people turned to stare at me, and the lady next to me shuffled uncomfortably as far as possible toward the window. When I said "excuse me, but why is everyone staring?" - she announced to the whole bus that I was "ein auslander"! Suddenly I saw them tangibly relax the mood, and especially when I did as gently instructed and stamped my ticket. They all smiled at me, and almost broke into applause. Whew!

Thought they were great as hosts during the World Cup.

And their ability to clean up a city after a big football game and the associated celebrations (drinking) in the street really put Manchester to shame.

Some 'krautrock' is great. They really got into underground progressive music in a big way, so their sounds were often quite inventive and focused.

I recommend Ibliss, early Grobschnitt, Kraan first LP, Satin Whale's first, Scorpions first, Lucifer's Friend, Electric Sandwich, and Sperrmull.

and most imporantly they do football GOOD.

Which is precisely why I hate them. Poxy bloody penatly shoot outs, fluky goals deflecting in off defenders. I always despair when we play Germany.

Other than football, no problem at all.

'Order' is a really big thing with Germans. Cleanliness is a big part of their keeping things orderly, so they are fastidious about their streets, housing estates and malls. Modern housing like they have would soon decline into dodgy areas, graffiti, gangs and crime, in this country.
There, it's clean, preserved and maintained, safe, and classy.

The Rhine used to be the dirtiest river in Europe mind - because of industry and waste. That river ran black or grey in the North aroung Koln, Bonn, and Dusseldorf. Mind you, even their clear streams were dangerously contaminated up there.
