Why was CMS our best defender tonight?

Header off the line in the first half and a clearance out of the six yard box in the second which denied an otherwise certain goal.

It's the system that is the problem, not the fact we don't have a striker. As one of CMS's biggest critics, I actually feel sorry for him now. He can't lead the line on his own, but Poyet is too stubborn (or is that too harsh?) to play 2 upfront when it seems pretty clear that this is what we need to do.

For what it's worth, I thought the back four and midfield looked solid tonight but at the same time, still didn't think we'd score.

The system that Poyet persists with is therefore the weakness, and not the fact that we don't have another striker.

Discuss.

Awful post. U play two up top u sacrifice a midfielder and ur easy to breakdown. Bit more confidence and the system and fluidity or the front three will work. CMS was very good tonight, hold up play has improved and his running with the ball is getting us up the pitch quicker, along with the two more attacking full backs.

CMS isn't scoring correct, but one in the next few weeks may change it all as his confidence is higher than the tale end of last year. score now while he's confident and could be good things for the season from him. Not score and confidence yes will plumit, and striker to help him is a must! Let's just be positive and wait and see, after all were not bottom like Palace.

Just got back from game, I think you are probably right. They just seem to run out of ideas past the halfway line, could have had Michael Owen up front - still would have been isolated. Feel sorry for CMS.
Notice the squad numbers and omissions. Still struggle to understand why JF-K is out on loan, 7 subs plus the opportunity to learn from Vicente, strange.
Thought both full backs did well and Kujsack.
For them Whittingham had another good game - he distributed the ball well for most of their attacks.
A few where we sit also made comments about our lack of threat at corners - we dont seem to get many headed goals from corners especially from C.Backs, biggest threat was Elphick who used to weigh in with a few.

Anyway roll on Saturday - lets hope we have striker by then!!

Dicker and Barnes could both have been sacrificed based on tonight's performances. I can only presume Vicente wasn't fully fit otherwise he'd have been in just behind CMS and perhaps made things a little different.

Our back four all have extremely high level experience - Bridge MoM, El Abd and Greer both solid, and Bruno made Bellamy look very average. We're already hard to break down without the justification of an extra midfielder.

So Poyet decided to have CMS help out when defending set pieces and he saved 2 certain goals, and you complain?

That is genius tactical play!
