I'd be surprised if there wasn't something in those new rules that allows spending beyond just a simple percentage of turnover if a club makes a profit.
Maybe add the amount of profit to the budget set by the percentage of TO. It would be bonkers if a club making profit wasn't allowed to spend it however they wanted.
(Obviously, making a profit doesn't happen often in football)

Because FFP has meant most clubs are brassic so there is value for any club with money …. Which is us.

One big reason is that we are one of a few clubs who actually can spend this summer. Which means a) not as much competition for the player to consider, b) less bidding 'wars' driving up prices, and c) we don't need to sell to buy as we've already done it over the last 2 windows.

All the above, and because new PSR rules will relate to turnover, not sure if player trading profits from 2 years ago would count, so it might be a case of spend it now, or you won't be able to next summer.

Yes, the existing PSR is on a three year rolling basis and so my understanding is that we have a window of opportunity on that front to spend now, before the new % of revenue rules come into play, especially due to our previous two very profitable accounting periods.

It is probably PSR rules as above and also I think it is TB and PB buying into Fab's philosophy. He is a nice guy and I think after RDZ they are finding him a pleasure to work with.

Also I've noticed that a lot of these players coming in have spoken to Fab so he must be a very persuasive guy.

If they can get Kadioglu, O'Reilly, Rutter and the french defender, we are cooking but I am not greedy!

How many of the new boys will line the bench though, or do those that thrived when not injured get to bench warm? Solly, Fergie, Enciso, Hinchelwood, et Al would have been certain starters last year if fit, now?. Also maybe this year time to start weaning in a backup captain now Llalana and Gross are gone.? Yes, but big spending at Chelsea screwed up their season let's hope Fab can manage so many talented players and they can respect him, I am trusting this young Fab is extremely good at man management and can deal with it all. A very tough ask, but I am open to see what Fab is all about.

A lot of people think Tony Bloom is a gambler. And as such, he'll take risks. These people are wrong. Tony is  not a gambler.

Tony is a professional gambler. And you don't get to be a successful professional gambler by taking risks. You get it by minimizing or mitigating risks and understanding when the odds are in your favor. That's when you place big bets.

So it Tony is putting chips on the table, you better believe that the odds are in his favor.

A big part of what, I think, has moved the odds is concerns over PSR that has weakened other clubs bargaining power and left an opening for us to make some big moves with less risk of missing out to other "big" clubs.

All in all, it's a very exciting time to be a Brighton fan. We are going to be the dark horse this season...

Another plus from improving the depth of the squad, it should mean less injuries as we can rotate more, which will be vital with the aggressive press.

We don't want to be fatigued come February, and finish like we did last year.

So a combination of the right market conditions and implementing what was learnt from last season.

I wondered if a part of it is if citeh are successful in challenging the APT rules then the state owned companies will have unlimited funds so players will go up in value, meaning any players you have can be sold for more but also players you buy are more expensive.

I am more surprised at how we are buying such expensive players to fit a manager who has absolutely no record of managing at the top level. Genuinely.

Our squad had serious deficiencies that needed resolving, including one final one, right back.

I don't see that personally. Yes I know he's a sicknote but Lamptey is good when available. Veltman is pretty decent at man marking and seeing out a game, Hinshelwood looked really good in the position and is fit again.

And that's if we play a back 4 and not a 3.

PSR has hamstrung the clubs that usually gazump us. Tony is all in. I’m guessing we’re doing the next couple of years business this summer.
