I agree to a degree, but DK is in trouble both ways, because as we all know, football fans say one thing on a Saturday, and change their mind next week.

So, we give Booker the job and he screws up. DK's fault
We give the job to somebody else and BB leaves. DK's fault

I just keep having the word loyalty appearing in my head, and maybe the club should show some, and let the bloke have a go. He has had some pretty good teachers.......

He is not MH or JW, and there is no guarantee that if we got in a well known manager things would be any better.

Trouble is, high profile = always looking over your shoulder.

BH = Had managed at high level, 1 year.....ish
MA = Low profile when he joined, had 3 years before he left.
PT = High profile when he joined, had 6 months
SC = High...ish profile when he joined , 1 year

If they have done it before, then when they are successful again, they get poached a hell of a lot quicker than if they are just starting out......

The biggest problem is that many fans have no faith in an internal apointment following the Hinschellwood fiasco. There's a strong case for Bob to be apointed however with the other stumbling blocks being his possible lack of contacts for laonees and the fact that he may be too close to the players to be objective.

Coppell built this team, and its on the strength of that we are winning at present.
Taylor rode the Adams wave and at present Booker is riding Coppells wave.
Thats not to say Bob can't do the job but it does say time will tell.
If Bob stays in charge and we win the league, do you honestly think Bob can keep us in the 1st division.............I have my doubts.

Go through all the 'new manager' threads, its been analysed in great detail. My biggest concern is he's too close to the players, you're asking them to respect as a boss someone who does Freddie Mercury impersonations. A good number 2 is invaluable, when it was going well at Leeds David O'Leary said that Brian Kidd was brilliant as his #2. He said there were 16 players all convinced that they'd be in the 1st team if Brian was boss. Kidd was also a great #2 at Man U. He was also a distaster as a Manager at Blackburn. There's more to it than simply working with good managers. If it were that easy every ex-pro would be a good manager.

Very astute observations Brovian, hard to disagree with anything you said there, good post IMHO.

OK 2 matches won which is good so far. One was against Conference opposition.

Not to put BB down at all coz I think he is doing a great job so far, but I kinda agree with bhaexpress on this one the contacts Coppell had were superb and this could potentially be BB's downfall.

Either way DK is going to give him a go for a few weeks so lets see what happens. Given a choice between BB and some second rate manager I could be swayed in the other direction.

I'm undecided on this. Hinshelwood and Wood were disasters, but to not appoint Booker because of that is like saying we won't appoint someone higher from outside the club because Brian Clough was rubbish or because Liam Brady or Peter Taylor (Mk 2) didn't work out.

Booker clearly has the support of the players, and is a great bloke to have around- and as long as we're winning people will support him. But the players don't always know what's best, only who they like. People will be very quick to get on Dick Knight's back if he appoints Booker and then it goes badly.

I'd be worried that if it all went tits up and we lost a few games, he'd end up getting the boot and then we've lost him completely. I'd hate him to leave the club for good because of a bad couple of months as manager (Hinsh had only three months, let's not forget, and there's no cushy Director of Football job going spare if it goes badly for Bob).

That is all absolutely correct.

PLEASE let's not get carried away with a win against a very bad Grimsby team and a bunch of part-timers who are near the bottom of the Conference.

Whenever you start to feel like saying Bob should get the job, just repeat the mantra ...

Hinshelwood, Jeff Wood, Hinshelwood, Jeff Wood.

You'll soon start sobbing uncontrollably as the memories come flooding back.

We need a man with experience of managing at this level, and has the contacts we need to build a side with no money. ALSO, I don't want to lose a very good assistant manager when we have to sack him at Xmas, because we are starting to be dragged into mid table obscurity (or worse).

Sort yer hneads out guys, Cotterill, Dowie, or Kinnear NOT BOB !

I think BB should carry on as "caretaker" at least until the result of the Falmer enquiry is confirmed. If at that stage things are not going well, DK can look at other options, whilst still keeping BB at the club (let's face it Hinshelwood is still here). Also this means that in the lead up to the falmer decision DK can put all of his energies into that. As huge numbers of people have said on this site, that is the most important event in this football club's history. If at that stage we do need to bring someone in, they will at least know what the future holds, and will not be able to use the same excuse that Coppell used to just piss off when clubs whose future is more certain come calling.

Pretty good suggestion if you ask me. Should only be two months, and we should get exactly who we want if Falmer gets the go-ahead.

I can see the point but I disagree. Assuming we get a 'yes' for Falmer there will still be a delay until we start playing there, 2005 has been mentioned. If Booker is in charge that long we'll be in the Rymans so we need a new man ASAP.

However whilst I think Booker as manager would be a disaster I think losing him would be almost as big. If we do get a 'yes' I'll wager that our next manager still won't be in charge when we run out at Falmer. If they're successful I'm sure they'll still bugger off like Coppell if a decent offer comes along (probably citing 'building delays' as an excuse). In that instance we'll need ANOTHER caretaker. If Booker is still at the club he'll be the ideal man for the job - he can't do it if we've sacked him.

Booker - the new Tony Parks. Hasn't he been caretaker-boss at Blackburn about 37 times?
