Why is there no thread slagging off Murray?

He did well to create the two near identical chances in the second half and after missing the first really ought to have bagged the second.
The least said about the missed header in the first half the better.
He's getting into good positions to be able to shot so the goals will come, no worries.

I think Johnny Byrne's comments on the phone in were spot on about Murray, he has lots of quality, but he needs to vary his attempts on goal, he keeps trying to twist and turn (he does that very well) but now again he should look up and try and lob the keeper more.

He should have buried the header in the first half, but the keeper did well with the one on ones. The encouraging thing about Murray is the amount of chances he seems to create or get on the end of. He has proved that he can finish with some superb goals, but we will also have to put up with the odd sitter going begging. I thought he still had a good game outside of the box last night, he really does know how to win a ball and play team-mates in.

Another 'mare in front of goal for him, theres no getting away from that. But his movement and positional sense is absolutely top draw - he is a defenders nightmare, ALWAYS on the move, pulling away and finding the space, timing his runs (notice he is rarely offside). He makes it easy for team-mates to find him with a variety of passes. I think he's a terrific player, and once he sticks a couple away, he's going to get an avalanche of goals for us.

Murray seems to have a bit of an Andy 'Andrew' Cole thing going on at present. He'll get you a goal, but you have to let him squander three or four solid gold chances first. OK, we're getting away with it for now, even T. Elphick and Adam El-Abd scored last night, but his chances to goals ratio is dreadful. As somebody said last night 'He's no Zamora'.

Exactly, Johhy Byrne's comment was that he maybe ought to try a bit of elevation, and the last caller on the phone-in made a "fish and chips" comment that's along the same lines.

I'd back Murray every time!

As an aside, as John Byrne has been mentioned, and as he's still good mates with Wilkins, why doesn't he get him in for a couple of sessions with our strikers, just to go through things like this? We've got a goalkeeping coach, Wilkins can deal with the midfield, Chapman the defence, why not get specialist striker help?

You've got to ask yourself whether had he scored a couple yesterday - would you be saying he'd had a bad game?

I was impressed yet again by him, he's got great ability at holding the ball up and really good feet, obviously he could, and maybe should've, got himself on the scoresheet but their keeper made some good saves to keep him out and let's just forget about the header in the first half! The Gills were dirty bastards as it was but they certainly gave Murray his fair share of knocks throughout the game probably because of his 'Player of the Month' status.

But anyway I'm sure more goals will come eventually.
