After last night's FA cup debacle, if like me, you often wonder how come the same company that once made what I think is the best ever TV documentary, the World At War, now produces little more than Coronation Street and Jeremy Kyle, then the article below is well worth a quick read - I'm old enough to remember ITV's output being able to match that of the BBC, something which seems unthinkable now - it's a real but generally little-mourned national loss, IMHO.

ITV are shit - sure, they may have once in a while produced some gems, but on the whole they have always been second rate

I only realised, quite recently, we don't watch ITV. Certainly not regularly.
The only exception would be for maybe a bit of 'old skool' Sweeney, or something on ITV4.

It almost makes the license fee, justifiable.

I can't remember the last time I watched a fiction show on ITV!

It's great in HD.

I'm sure it is.. but unless you subscribe the the FREE service that a small percentage of the population choose instead of Virgin or Sky you can't f***ing watch it in HD!!

To offer something on Freeview and not on Sky/Virgin is absolutely shocking.

Not sure that's entirely true: take the World At War, Brideshead Revisited, World In Action, The Jewel In The Crown, Minder, the quality of News at Ten's coverage and yes, even its sports coverage - all of those were certainly at LEAST comparable to the contemporary output from the BBC back in the day and some cases a great deal better.

The ITV strike in 1979 was a really massive deal at the time. Who'd ever notice it now?

The World at War is being re-shown on a saturday on BBC2. Its the 3rd this week. Absolutely unmissable IMO.

the last programme that I thought was exceptional was "The Troubles I've Seen." Apart from that I agree, ITV rarely make a show worth watching. The last fiction that I wanted to watch was the final Prime Suspect.
