Why don't I feel that bad?

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
I don't feel that bad, either:

a) the circumstances of the match (injuries in defence (our defence incuded a left back who was replacing the guy who replaced a guy who replaced a guy who replaced a guy who replaced our regular first choice left back, our centre back was replacing the guy who replaced the guy ho replaced our first choice centre back. We played with 10 men for 89 minutes (3mins injury time each half), and still, palace needed an at best dodgy penalty to kill the game off as a contest)
b) relative positions and form, as much as some people might not like to admit it, despite their poor start, palace have been doing better than us so far this season, we are struggling to score even when we dominate games and they are fighting back from 2 goals down regularly
c) I've had a bad feeling about the game all week, so was prepared for this
d) Seeing other fans extreme reactions and comments just have me shaking my head, and leave me thinking "it might be bad, awful even, but not that bad" which helps me get over my own disappointment
e) We lost our first meeting last season, only drew the return, ad still finished above them.
f) Someone else on the match day thread highlighted a similarity to the Southampton game last season

And this one last to avoid all the "I stopped reading at..." replies
g) Yes, I know "it's palace" etc. yes they are our rivals, I get that, but for me that rivalry is not the be all and end all of supporting the albion. It adds a little extra spice to the games, but it's still only 3 points available, it's still only one of the 46 games we play this season, and it really is "just a game". Life goes on.

Excellent intelligent post.
I don't feel bad because I sat and watched England THRASH the All Blacks. I'm still buzzing from that, what a performance! The result from Selhurst was obviously disappointing but as I don't have the same anti-Palace feelings as a lot of people for me it was no more depressing than losing to Southampton last year. I felt more pissed off after the Wolves and Bolton matches TBH. It IS only one of 46 league games and there's always next week and another chance to get three points to stay in touch with the play-offs.

Plus the FA Cup draw is this afternoon and I'm looking forward to that - I just hope Poyet takes it seriously.

It was very similar to the Southampton match with the sending off and wrong penalty decision (the first pen was not a penalty)
Gus loves the FA cup, it's just the JPT and League cup games he dislikes, which is a view I have sympathy with.

The home defeat last season ruined my entire week. Yesterday I was annoyed for a few hours. But it doesn't feel nearly as bad as the 3-1.

I thought it was an odd game, it really didn't seem to have a lot of quality from either side (clearly not from us, but I think in the circumstances I expected a bit more from Palace). Probably sounds daft, as 3-0 is comprehensive enough, but I never felt like we were under siege as such. We were just completely ineffective. They mostly seemed to be knocking it round the centre circle. Kuszczak wasn't flying around making saves. What on earth happened to Zaha too? Not that I wanted to watch him tear us apart, clearly, but he didn't do a lot, did he? That sort of game- 10 men, early goal- should be made for a player like him, but he was very ordinary.

One question - did anyone seriously expect us to get anything from yesterday's match given our track record at bottling all the really big games? I certainly didn't but it doesn't make it any less painful. The fact that we failed to compete and show any passion was the biggest disappointment for me.

the 3 - 1 at home was worse. Still can't watch the goals on youtube.

Yesterday hurt but not as bad as I thought.

Already over it

That's an impressive recovery rate.

Finally a word for Murray - fair play for not celebrating either goal, despite getting booed throughout. The fact he was on the pitch when the second penalty was given suggests he was not too keen on the idea of scoring a hat-trick and thus rubbing salt into the wounds. I must admit, I didn't know he had that class in him.

Agree with that. Thought Murray came out of this game well. OK, he fell down very quickly for the penalty but he used to do this for us. However his goal was very well taken as was the penalty. His no celebration and not taking the third penalty was the act of a gentleman. Sir. I salute you.

I also don't feel gutted about it. The reason for this is that they were diving constantly through the game and Murray's dive in the area killed the game off. I really thought we were going to pull it back before that penalty. It is nothing like the 1-3 last season at home. They deserved that win last year but this one they did not, because they cheated.

Agree with others losing last season to palarse at the amex hurt more than losing yesterday and yes i don't want to ever lose against the scum but we went out with a weakened team the sending off was a joke not to mention the penalty's so no i don't feel as bad either so roll on January the return match.
