Quite a bit of heated discussion about this today in various quarters.
My take: I didn't boo and I don't condone the booing, but I did expect it.
I don't think people were booing Graham Potter. I don't think they were booing individual players. I don't even think they were booing the team, as a whole, for not winning. I think it was more a collective expression of frustration that, once again, we failed to beat a pretty ordinary side that we'd largely dominated.
I heard boos in WSU block H, and many people were responding with "Shut up, idiots!"...or similar.
This exactly (and I didn't boo - but I wasn't surprised). We smashed yet another team not worthy to lace our collective boots and came away with a draw. We KNOW this side is good and they should be even higher in the league. It's so damn frustrating to watch (and must be to play).
Booing is not the answer - tho it was for a handful - but I predicted it and wasn't surprised. I am surprised by GPs reaction though - it's football, and in 31,000 people you will get some knobs.
PS Please share this poll with the club. Surely GP and the team understand this?
Shared.
I don’t think the boo boys come out of that with any respect whatsoever and I totally get GP and a level of frustration but his ‘history’ jibe was pretty crass the more I think of it. There are ways of putting it.
to be judged by withdean standards i suggest we play with some of the shit strikers from that era like glenn murray, chris wood and ashley barnes and see how we get on.
I didn't boo but was extremely frustrated.
People have the right to boo , it's not always directed at anyone ,
I think Potter has got off very lightly over the last few seasons , mainly because the stadium has been empty . If he has thin skin then eventually he will walk away and join another club. But he cannot be above criticism (ie Locadia substitution , formation , results etc)
You can’t although surely every manager would get off the hook by saying not my fault my strikers don’t score. It’s way to simplistic.Maybe but you cannot blame Potter for Maupay missing 2 absolute sitters.
A lot of people wanted to see him back in the side.
For history, perhaps GP might want to read up about Mike Bailey leading us to our highest league position but being about as popular as a bottle of scotch at an AA meeting.
I've posted earlier in the thread that booing never has or will be for me as it is counter productive but I find the "Remember Gillingham" crowd worse. I'm sure Man City won't participate in a good boing at some point just because they were 2-0 down to Gillingham in a league 1 play off final or it will stop Chelsea fans if we remind them they were relegated in the 80s. To be judged by Withdean standards I suggest we play with some of the shit strikers from that era like Glenn Murray, Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes and see how we get on.
Does that mean that there was quite a few who really, really liked him?
Newcastle second halfIn what way does anyone think that booing would have a positive impact? That is the bit I don’t get. It is not like they are not trying!
