Although we have no excuses, it's impossible to say what may have happened if we'd won our group.

I reckon we'd have beaten Ghana but would have had to ride our luck a lot to even get a sniff against the Argentines.


You need good performances and LUCK to win the world cup, we certainly got neither

(I'm by no means saying we'd have gone all the way, far from it I'm just saying you can never tell what is going to happen under different circumstances)

It's unbelievable isn't it? The evidence was there for all to see, but apparently some still didn't see it: "If only we'd have won the group we'd have beaten Ghana because they're only Africans and we've got better players. Then we'd have beaten Uruguay because they're one of the weaker South American teams and we've got better players. Then we'd have beaten Holland because ... well because we're England and Rooney, Terry, Lampard and Gerrard would have torn them to shreds because they're better players than the Dutch. Then we'd EASILY have beaten someone like Germany in the final because they've only got a young team and we've got better players."

With an easier draw we MAY have built on the Slovenia victory and not looked back. We MAY have been just as dismal and crashed out.

What's the point of speculating like that? You could go on forever with ifs and buts. Chances are the team would have been the same and the system would have been the same and we would have lost to any team in the second round.
