Why are birthday cards SO expensive?

Why is it that you can pay between £2-£3 for a single birthday card and yet you can get a box of say a dozen decent Christmas cards (with glitter on them and everything) for less than a fiver? It's an outrage I tell you.

Matter of time before Clintons et al either price themselves down, or lose out badly. Ecards are the future while they persist on charging £2+ for a fairly standard card.

Buy a box of cheap Christmas cards, scribble out the words "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year", and write "Happy Birthday" underneath.

I think you're about 18 months out of date. All major supermarkets stock birthday cards at around 60p and many newsagents also have lower priced cards. The days of £2.25 for a bog standard card finished a while back. Even Clinton's are gradually reducing their prices and will do so even quicker once people realise they are a complete rip off.

Is the right answer.
I regularly used to blow £15 on half a dozen cards at Christmas. Now I can buy the same number, same quality, for not much more than a fiver. Thats a saving of nearly three beer tokens.

They're a GODSEND.

Ooh thanks. I HAVE tended to buy from Clintons, just a sort of reflex, but I'll shop around now.

I tend to make my own. Either draw something (I like to think myself as a bit of a cartoonist) or use a relevant photo for the person in question.

Easy to do and much more meaningful than just buying some old tat from a shop. I don't bother with Christmas cards anyway. I donate money to charity instead of sending 50+ cards.
