You lived somewhere like Nottingham or Stoke? Would you support the big team, with more attractive fixtures and possibly better standard of football (Forest or Stoke)or would you support the minnow (County or Port Vale). Or would it all depend on which area of the city you came from?

I suppose in Nottingham there could be allegiance to Forest or County if there was a family history of supporting them but youths of the area may even 'support' a (spit) team like ManUre, Liverpool. Chelski or the Arse etc due to lack of recent success. I was born in Stoke on Trent and luckily nearer to Hanley (City hotbed) than Burslem (Vale) so supported Stoke in my youth and still follow them as an armchair supporter of the underdog team. However since 1978 have lived down here and initially took in games at Pompey, Brighton and Stains - and decided to follow Brighton due to watching Peter Ward so my decision was based on one player who I liked a lot , bought a blue and white shirt and have just got another new one for my 50th birthday. Sorry, probably doesn't help answer your question at all ... :)

Albion would still be my team, but would probably go to Forest if in Nottingham. Suspect I'd make the short trip to Crewe if ever I was in Stoke.

Knowing my luck, it'd be Port Vale if I lived in Stoke or Mansfield if I lived in Nottingham :(

If I came from Nottingham, it would probably be Forest, as they were a massive club back in the day. If I moved up there now, I would still be an Albion fan, but may watch any match if I couldn't get to the Albion match.

I tried going to games as a neutral when I moved up here 10 years ago (Liverpool, Everton, Wrexham even Man Utd) but I just couldn't muster up any interest in the games and spent more time checking the Albion scores.

I was the only one coming out the Gladys Street end at Everton without a smile on my face following Wayne Rooneys debut screamer against Arsenal as we had lost 4-1 to Notts County.

I always find it puzzling how some of the most violent derby matches are between teams from the same city where a lot of the fans must work together - Birmingham v Aston Villa, Bristol Rovers v Bristol City, Port Vale v Stoke City, Millwall v West Ham and Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday will always have major disorder at unless they're played on Sundays with an early kick-off.

Maybe because so many of those clubs I've mentioned are underachieving so beating their deadly rivals becomes almost an obsession in an otherwise drab season.

I had a similar challenge when I lived in Liverpool ( Birkenhead really) and I wanted to watch football and although it was when Everton were flirting with relegation there was no way I was going to watch Liverpool even tranmere would have been preferable.

I'd support the team that represented me.

In other words the area where I was born or lived in.

Football is a geographic game, that's why the teams are named after their towns!

My dad was born in Charlton and is a Charlton fan. However south London doesn't represent me at all, I'm Brighton born and bred so the Albion represent me.

lot of the time it's just pot luck, My brother in law took me in 1977. I never played the game or even watched one on TV nor had my parents, but when Ward hits a hat trick you're hooked. Thank f*** my brother in law didn't support Palace (we were neck n neck in the league with similar crowds) I'd have been none the wiser. A friend of mine is a passionate Norwich fan despite having no links to the area, about 30 years ago while on holiday In Blackpool a relative took him to a pre season friendly at Bloomfield Rd and walked through the first gate they came to and it was the away (Norwich) end, he was only about 6, the rest is history as they say

I live in Nottingham and have been to see Forest play a few times, I have seen County play twice. The last game of last season I went to Meadow Lane, I went for one reason and one reason only. That was to support the only team I would ever support no matter where I live, Brighton and Hove Albion........................Super Seagulls!!!!!!................I am Brighton, super Brighton and I am from the South....................Past Present and Future. :D

I've lived in Nottingham since 1983 (more than half my life) but have only ever supported the Albion. There's something about Forest I don't like, they're a bit like Leeds, living off past glories that are no longer relevant.

Notts County are the far more friendlier club, with even better (and certainly longer) history than Forest. 45,000+ crowds 60 years ago! My brother-in-law has a Notts season ticket and I sometimes go with him, so if I was inclined to support one or the other it would be them.
