This must be our best chance since 1966 for major honours our golden generation are sure to deliver.

Oh.

Yep, afraid so.
Marco Van Basten doesn't have the squad behind him (it's that old chestnut of the players for the Oranje thinking they know better than the gaffer).
They've already forced him to change the team into a formation THEY prefer, and last week Clarence Seedorf excused himself from the squad after grumbling that he didn't want to play for MvB anymore.
And van Basten is Ajax's new coach for next season - god help them.

Holland are 12/1 at Blue Square - I'd not put any money on them at anything under 22/1 - it's just not value.

I can't see past Germany (although they'll probably need to beat Portugal in the semis) or Italy.
A Germany/Italy final is very much on the cards thanks to the group draw.
You get 10/1 on that at Blue Square - you know it makes sense.

I hope Spain can finally crack it. But they won't be carrying any of my money this time, as the sums I've lost backing them in big tournaments makes me want to cry like a Leeds fan.

What odds could I get for Spain to reach the final, plus Torres as top scoer?

Please?

I think Spain may well just do it this time.

Can't remember who described Spain as "the masters of the torn-up betting slip" but they were right.

The answer is, of course....GERMANY :clap2::clap2:

I’m backing FRANCE. The fact that Patrice Evra can’t get in the team shows how good they are. Dave three Queers can’t even get in the squad.

Spain have the easiest group and a class group of players but I can’t back a team that make England look like over achievers.

Allez Les Bleus.

Have also been suckered by Spain in the past but am willing to give them another chance at 13-2. They are asking for 6-1 on Betfair, btw, so if you fancy them, it might be an idea to take the price now.

Not STRICTLY true though is it?

Accepting of course that England don't deserve to be there as they had their chance and spunked it, the fact is that having joint hosts does make it that little bit harder to qualify. Its all very well if those joint hosts were say France and Germany who were two likely qualifiers anyway, but when ONE EIGHTH of the available places are taken by Switzerland and Austria, its not ideal.

[Not that next time will be much different - Poland and Ukraine]
