Happy New Year from Nicaragua ... should be some folks on West Coast still to own up (or get home).

Shuggie?! Where do you live in Nicaragua? I live in Tamarindo, Costa Rica and often go up to Nicaragua - Ometepe, Granada, San Juan del Sur etc.

Happy new year by the way!!! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1420097691.048318.jpg

Spot on, Toronto. Just turning in now after a raft of mai tais. 12:54 a.m. Chilly night though, only 60 degrees.

Take care - wrap up warm dear - and the very happiest of New Years to you and yours. From 5047 miles away (in the same big-ass country).

Happy New Year to you too, sir!

Only here on hols ... was working in Tampa so flew down in mid-Dec to meet up with backpacking child + her boyfriend who have been away for three years. + the wife who joined them in Panama in October. Started off in San Jose (briefly) then Tortuguera (amazing), Arenal (OK), Monteverdi (OK) before taking most of the day to get up to Ometepe. The border was rammed with Nicaraguans returning home for New Year - think we'd still be there if it weren't for some judicious bribery to jump queues which hacked off some sanctimonious Canadians (feck 'em). Ecolodge on one of the double volcanoes was fabulous but poverty in some of the villages quite shocking. We've been in colonial old town of Granada for a few days and just about survived the crazy locals letting off firecrackers and hand-launching home made rockets in the street. Been checking out some local businesses to set up daughter and her boyfriend but nothing quite cheap enough. We might be back for another look in the Spring. Now off to SJ del Sur to complete the Nicaragua set. We have really enjoyed this part of the world - unrelenting tropical sunshine, friendly locals, cheap beer and spectacular scenery/wildlife. Dunno how you cope!

Surely the last will be some of our Chinese fans, who won't be celebrating the new year until next month.
