I stewarded at Sussex for four or fives years in the late 90s/early noughties. In this period, the quickest bowler I ever saw was a pre-injury Simon Jones playing for Glamorgan. He was just coming through, was early 20s, hadn't had any injuries yet, and was breathtakingly quick. Gave Michael Bevan an absolutely torrid time if I remember rightly.

Bevan didn't like the short stuff though

The quickest spell I have ever seen was John Snow in a Gillette Cup Quarter Final against Kent in 73.. he just blew away the top order.

I was coached by him a couple of years later and you couldn't find a more surly and grumpy individual, but on his day no-one could touch him.

During his time Adrian Jones was recorded as the fastest white man playing professional cricket anywhere! A record he held for a number of years. Problem was he couldn't tell where he was going to bowl it. I also remember playing in a game with him for Horsham when he bowled 14NB's and 6 wides in 1 over.

Phillip Threlfall was in the same boat. When he was with us people said he was as quick as Alan Donald but he just could not get line length or accuracy in his bowling. Was a real nice chap though:thumbsup:
