Under your skin.
Greer will be captain but it should be Painter.

I have voted Sparrow because I think that the captain should be a midfielder and we have achieved most success with that i.e Nobby, Dodge and before that Glen Wilson, Dave Turner (I think)

I can't believe it's been drawn down to 2 players, with people already having formulated opinions based on part of a Burgess Hill friendly, and one player who hasn't joined yet!

That is probably because Gus said that he hadnt appointed a captain and wouldnt until he had signed all of his squad so everybody assumed that the new captain would be a new signing. Both Sparrow and Greer fit the bill.

Way out west
It has to be Sparrow to allow the journo's to go off on a magnificent pun-fest every time he does something...just a pity his first name isn't Jack, that would unlock loads of pirate based puns in addition to the bird related variety.

I assume you mean Nobby Horton, but Nobby Lawton also a midfieder was also captain. Your memory has served you well Dave Turner was listed as captain in 1967-68. Roy Jennings very much a defender was captain from 1960 to 1964. I don't know anything much about Sparrow or Greer, I'm not too fussed about their position Bobby Moore was a defender and Dino Zoff a keeper and they both picked up a world cup, but a midfielder certainly comes in contact with every player in the team often during the match.
