Tony Grealish I think, against Wolves in a midweek evening match at the Goldstone. We won 3-0 I seem to remember.

You would have seen the Bobby Smith era and a big Chelsea cup game if i`m right . My first game was against Oldham Athletic which was 6-0 which i wrongly posted on another thread as being Bury . I actually thought for years it was a team called Barrow until i looked it up .I think it was Kit Napier but can`t find the info , i think he scored 2 goals .

Certainly did, Bobby Smith moved in the house that backed on to our garden on Shoreham Beach and I soon became friends with his two sons. Had some great days there. I will always remember one day we were going fishing off the Arm but Bobby said we had to go to the bookies at Ferry Road first. Loads of shouting and he came with handful of notes, took us next door and bought all three of us new rods and reels. Amazing days for a young lad who was with my hero.

I don't know. I know I went the the 1969 wolves league cup game and also went to a Saturday game at round about the same time which we won 2-0 , I thought it was Hartlepool but it might have been Barrow. Unlike many on here my dad was not from Brighton and so I was not an early supporter so was 13 or so with a poor memory.

it was Barrow on the Saturday before the Wolves game

Nobby Lawton and Eddie Spearritt scored the goals

there was a spike in the attendance for the Barrow game 20,936 (maybe purchasing tickets for the Wolves game?)

was the Wolves game all ticket?

Kit Napier scored the first goal I remember seeing at the Goldstone. He took a quick throw-in straight into the back of another Albion player walking away from the line, collected the rebound, hared off into the penalty area and, avoiding a couple of challenges, stuck the ball in the net.
Goodness knows who we were playing, or exactly when it was, but the goal was unforgettable.

Burgess Hill
Fred Binney v Halifax in 1976.

First game was three years earlier against Colchester I think but finished 0-0. Next game was the Halifax one and haven't stopped going since!!

I think that is correct. Bizarrely I have the programme from Barrow's next home game, in which they praise their team's plucky performance in front of the 'bumper' crowd. The Wolves attendance was 32k, so fans attending the Barrow game were probably guranteed a ticket for the cup match.

They did this a few times around then - once I believe for a reserves match, which ended up wirh an 18k attendance or something equally ridiculous.

I seem to think it was Alex Dawson. A powerful header in front of the North Stand. 1968'ish? No idea who the opposition was.
Anyone got any ideas?

17,554 against Charlton. That was to secure tickets for the Derby League Cup game 1976/77. Derby were reigning League Champions and we had beaten top tier Ipswich and West Brom in previous rounds. It was the ultimate POTG fixture as you not only paid to come in but physically purchased your Derby ticket at the same time. Many then turned round and 2ent home but if you stuck around (I did) then you were rewarded with a 3-0 win.

I`not able to find D Wilkins scoring against Palace .Dec 26 1988 we won 3-1 ,K Bremner ,G Chivers ,G Nelson . April 21 1984 3-1 .A Young T Conner E Young . Albion 3-0 Hull City Feb 12 1994 D.Wilkins K.Nogan R.Codner . Feb 20 1991 Albion 3-0 Leicester M.Small D.Wilkins B.wade . There is one rarity i noticed .Sep 15 1990 Albion 3-2 Charlton M.Small R.Codner D.Wilkins .Four days later Sep 19 1990 .Albion 3-2 Portsmouth. exactly the same scorers in the same order .M.Small R.Codner D.Wilkins !

Now, I may be mis-remembering (it was a long time ago) but sure I remember two things:
1. Beating Palace 3:1 at home (yellow inflastable bananas everywhere!) one Boxing Day - 1988 it appears.
2. Dean Wilkins free kick, about 20/25yds out into top corner (in front of south stand) - I was in North Stand. This may be a different game, but most likely a Boxing Day.

When I was an active programme collecter,I used to buy other teams programmes after they'ed just played Brighton

Hoping to find a report and a few photos of their game against us.
Got quite a few like that, but sometimes it wouldn't work, espcially early 70s ones
when they were a bit slow getting round to printing them
then I'd try and buy the next one

I want to say Ian Mellor, but have no idea off the top of my head.

It was the 2-2 draw with Blackburn at the Goldstone in 1977.

maybe

bearing in mind the Black Prince signed for us at the beginning of December 1968

he only played two games at the Goldstone in 1968
scored in both of course

but,I know for a fact his goal against Bournemouth was scored in the South Stand goal

so,that leaves his home debut against Reading
I've no idea if it was a header or even in the North Stand goal I'm afraid

but the game was played on Friday 20th December 1968
presumably as to not clash with the last Saturday before Christmas

That was it! 17k against Charlton reserves - incredible! Why would anyone go home, tho? Might as well stick around. Glad you bothered!
