Ashley Barnes: He knew there were many fans who absolutely hated him and if anything he raised his game accordingly. Gave his all for the Albion and a ridiculously long ban for tripping the referee scores him bonus points. His post Albion career has furthered his cult status with a knack irritating the big clubs (his goal versus Man City, the 'tackle' on Matic) and his efforts against Reading to help us secure a top six finish have ensured he will be warmly welcomed back should he ever return (well by me anyway).

Inigo Calderon: "He's awful, but such a legend". I may be paraphrasing slightly but that has been the sentiment expressed by every one of my friends who has seen the great man play for us. I don't think I've ever forgiven quite so many shoddy displays in defence for every time there's a balls up at the back he redeems himself in time with many crucial/wonder goals. The man bleeds blue and white and is a genuinely lovely person doing incredible work for charity. His occasional barbaric tackling in spite of this just adds to his status.

David Stockdale: My word he had a torrid first six months to his Albion career. Despite the occasional flashes of brilliance he just couldn't seem to stop making mistakes. Defending his displays on here was for a time the equivalent of being a bell-ringing leper. And then, in a game against Birmingham at the Amex he saved a penalty on the stroke of half-time to keep the scores level. That was the turning point and he's not looked back since becoming one of our key players. Supremely classy guy, his conduct following the Shoreham crash was all you needed to see to know the calibre of man we have on our books. My favourite Albion keeper.

Gerry Ryan - as someone said earlier, you never quite knew what he was going to do next. Sometimes he looked as though he was playing football in wellies he was so awful - the next minute he'd be waltzing past the whole Man City team to score the goal of the season. My favourite moment was listening to the cup game at Anfield on Radio Sussex. As far as I can recall, the commentary ran something like '...and Gerry Ryan, who so far has done absolutely nothing in the game, was there to put it in the net'. Which just about summed him up really.

Plus - he had that great moustache.

And - he fought back very bravely from his broken leg, which endeared him to me even further.

I think he was only 18 when he died. Killed in a car crash driving home to Wales after a Friday night home game
