I think it is just a bit closer than the table looks. Fulham play Newcastle on the last day and assuming Newcastle are safe I think we should expect Fulham to get three points there. Thus we definitely are in danger and need more points. Chances are we will stay up of course but it is not all over by any stretch of the imagination.
Yet if we do the double over Leeds and fulham lose to Chelsea that's 10 clear with 4 games left. Fulham would have to win all 4 and us lose all 4

If we were to lose to Leeds at 3 on Saturday, can you imagine the incentive that will give to Fulham at 5:30? They will smell blood.
If we don’t get another point, Fulham have to ,win 2 and draw 2 of their remaining 5 games.
That’s a tough task even for a team that is in form, let alone one who has taken one point from their last 5 games.

The reason that they dont have more points is not because they havent "smelled blood" but because they are not good enough to get more points.

Before the Sheffield United game Sky Bet were offering 80/1 on Sheffield United 20th, WBA 19th and us 18th. Now I think we probably will stay up but they seemed generous odds.

They've been "smelling blood" frequently this season..
We have given them countless opportunities to close the gap and put us under pressure.
But nope! even when they go in front in a game, they mange to chuck it all away.
We may have some mental frailties within our squad, but Fulham take the cake.
I think the gap and goal difference is to big for Fulham & West Brom now.But Fulham do have an easier run in than us.
However, this season most of our points have been against the middle of the table teams , so I am banking on us winning at least one of the games against Leeds, West Ham , Wolves or Arsenal taking us to 37 points and safety.
Despite all the plaudits for the manager and team I feel it has been an awful season and probably on reflection a step back rather than forward for us (unless we win all 5 games to come and then I will be voting for Potter to be given another 5 year contract
)

All effectively have nothing to play for now, all basically just need 1 point to all but guarantee safety and they all probably already are. I can see Fulham turning them all over.
Fulham best run of the season coincided with the teams around them having their worst runs, including us. So yea, I think it actually does make a difference.

One win or 2 draws would be enough imho (with our G/D).
With 2 draws for us only and 3 defeats, Fulham would then need to win 3 and draw 1 of their last 5. If they did that, they'll be up on merit.
If we win just one (and lose 4), Fulham would need 3 wins and 2 draws from 5 games.
And I agree whilst the football is pretty and Potter is a great bloke, we're going backwards in many ways..... pedestrian, no cutting edge, questionable mental strength, lack of real leaders on the field and before the budget is thrown up as a reason/excuse, then look no further than Dyche and Burnley, who have a worse budget and consistently outperform us over a season.
We're treading water at best. Holding our own but not moving forward.

Treading water if you ignore everything (going from one of the oldest to one of the youngest squads, changing style of football and so on) but the league table, yes.
But in that case (if nothing counts but the league table) Burnley & Dyche are also treading water.
16/17: 40 pts
17/18: 54 pts
18/19: 40 pts
19/20: 54 pts
20/21: remains to be seen but probably not more than 54 pts

On the same basis as Leeds, Wolves and Arsenal having nothing to play for? Man City will be on the beach by the time we play them as well.
Villa had nothing to play for the other night, and were still too good for West Brom. I may be being over-optimistic, but looking at those three Fulham games:
Burnley - I don't believe they ever let up. Sometimes they are cr*p, but that's just football....they always put the effort in;
Southampton - Have had an absolutely awful 2021, but still think they are motivated to finish as high as possible. With Hassenhutl as manager they will certainly play with energy
Newcastle - they may be on the beach for the last game, but if the likes of St Maximin and Wilson are playing they will still be a handful.
They also have Chelsea and Man Utd away, and - just checking Man Utd's fixtures - it's possible that United will need the points to guarantee second place.
O balance, I'm optimistic!

Fulham in their last five games played Man City, Leeds, Villa, Wolves and Arsenal - all with very little to play for - getting a total of one points.
I think people really overestimate the "on the beach" factor though, most players hates losing and would sell their grandma to prevent it.

I think Burnley may well smash Fulham, especially if they smell blood after a loss or draw for the cottagers against the impressive Chelsea. Dyche teams don’t do ‘nothing to play for’.

Exactly, 25-1 is available right now reflecting that there’s still a possibility, but it’s small. If it happens, I’m not accepting anybody saying ‘told you so’ unless they screen shot their winning bets that pay for their next 3 years’ season tickets.

It was high as 66-1 after Chelsea. That - for a few days - was a mere £10 placed for a season ticket near enough if it happens. If you think Albion will lose 6 games in a row (they never have) and Fulham will beat the team who just went toe to toe with Real Madrid etc.
