No. It hasn't come to this. Nature abhors a vacuum and in the absence of news, people are posting endless threads referencing the only candidates they can think of.

I'll hold my hand up and say that I had no idea who Roberto De Zerbi was when we were first linked to him. I also had very little idea who Graham Potter was, apart from Swansea running Man City close in the FA Cup. This is why I, and probably everyone else on this board, and the pundits who work for Talk Sport, and the tabloids, and the people who set the first odds for the bookies, are not in charge of our recruitment process.

We're fans. Our job is not to stick a dart in whichever one of the touted names we fancy. Our job is to keep the faith, await the outcome of the recruitment team's discussions and then moan that whoever we manage to appoint can't score goals and hasn't got a plan B.

Please no more threads about Graham Potter. Starlizard is not the envy of data analysts across the whole of football because it answers the question 'Who across the globe would be the best available fit for Brighton & Hove Albion?' with the words 'Hard to say really. Why don't you get back that bloke who left you in the lurch a couple of years ago?'

Actually... I'm going to put a brave face on it, ahem, and say that of the two (and I'm not sure that either is actually going to transpire) that I'd go for hangin' Mr Cooper.

I know he's an ugly bugger but why on earth would you be against a manager with a proven track record, who is not only known to be able to steady the ship at a club but exceed expectations whilst doing so. And why would you want Potter over that?

3rd top scorers in the Championship, 2nd best defence. Took Forest to a League Cup Semi and an FA Cup Quarter Final. Won the U17 World Cup with England and came runners up in the U17 Euros. Can work within a structure. Absolutely loved by Forest fans.

For me, if he ends up being our plan D, E, or F. I'd take that. I'd still not see the point in parting ways with Roberto if the market clearly didn't allow a club of our size to hire the right person to take the club another step forward, but Cooper would be a fine compromise. He's a very good manager.

Why do people pick random options to contrast against each other? There are plenty of candidates out there other than these two (see a million other threads for confirmation). In true Albion style it will probably be someone no one has mentioned yet.

Neither of them are random. Cooper has been linked with us in the past and both have featured in the bettings odds this time round. You might not like the choices, but they're not random.

If the Jeff Swelling comment is accurate, I can't help feel that McKenna had given us a pretty clear (but informal) indication he'd come. I wonder if all the bluster around Chelsea and United made him reconsider everything about his next step (whilst bagging himself a massive pay rise).

The fact that Barber knew him from his Spurs time (and got him work in Vancouver) suggests that there must have been some kind of informal chat prior to RDZ leaving, giving the club the idea that it would be a formality. Plus, Alex Crook tweeted out immediately after the RDZ announcement to expect things to move quickly with McKenna. Barber has really got this one wrong - either McKenna was never really that interested or he was, but didn't like what he heard when they met to discuss the role?

Could also have been the case that Chelsea getting involved drastically increased McKenna's demands. I'd imagine Ipswich are paying a lot more for him now than was initially on the table a few weeks prior.

Wouldn't suprise me if Crofty is on our potential list of new managers, it's the clubs policy to promote from within if possible so I'd imagine he's at least applied for the job,he knows full well how the team now plays so I'd be ok with it if the club decided to give him a try.

Absolutely no. Not bright enough at all (from what I've seen). We can't have those folk up the road managed by Glasner (next manager of Bayern/Germany etc), West Ham Lopetetgui (former Spain and Madrid coach), Bournemouth Iraoloa (all kind of rivals right now) and we're giving to gig to Andrew bloody Crofts. He can stay for continuity but absolutely no way is Joao Pedro and Mitoma (for example) wanting to be managed by Andrew Crofts. Chris alive. Let Martin Hinshelwood be a warning to anyone that way inclined.
