Although I agree on ability on Poch and Klopp as I posted above, the stats show only one country has won a trophy with a foreign manager. Greece in the Euros. No one else has done it.

This is surely more a reflection of the fact no major country, other than Portugal, has a foreigner in charge.

Is that because foreign managers can't do it, or because the best teams rarely get foreign managers in?

In return England have a settled culture and good young players. What they need is warmth, fun and energy, plus that degree of coherence and in-game control that has proved to be just out of Southgate’s reach. In many ways Klopp is almost too good. Can you hire rock‑star-Father-Christmas for a role that is essentially the nation’s PE teacher?"

Klopp quit Liverpool because (in my estimation) he's unwell. He lost lots of weight after Christmas. He won't be taking any jobs for a while.

True, but until Sunday no one else had lost two successive Euro finals. These records are there to be broken!

Out of realistic contenders, Lampard.

As I've said, an international manager gets little time with his players and it's not really coaching to the full. He has to be likeable and able to identify a team that works together. Lampard is a very attacking coach.

In an international context, I think he fits the mold. And he'd be popular with the team as someone who is a respected former England player who has been there and done it.

I wouldn't choose Potter. I see him as more of a club manager.

If its Lampard or Gerrard we'll all be begging for Southgate to come back in no time.

It's the point I'm making though. It's not the same as club management. And I would take Chelsea off anyone's CV when considering.

That is the other side of it. I can't see any of the 'big' winning nations; Spain, France, Germany, etc employing a foreigner. But as England are not in that group I think its acceptable for a 2nd tier nation like us.

Not sure Pep has the requisite experience of being stuck with shit players in key positions.

i think Klopp woild make a far better England manager than Pep.

Its more than just whose the best tactical coach, the team unity, emotional intelligence, public Ambassadorial role are all huge too, and Klopp is a far more warm and open human being than pep imho and would be much better at that side of the job. Pep is often brittle and short.

Preference of course is English manager but nobody obvious about. Klopp available and knows the players and English game backwards. Tempt him in until world cup. If had managed at Euros not saying we would have beaten Spain but win or lose we would have dominated all games up to final.
