Lloyds TSB for day to day banking, no problems at all, Barclays for mortgage etc...they are not the best bank I have ever banked with...they are however far better than the worst, ABN-Amro, whose levels of incompetency took some believing...it took me one year to close my account down after I left the Netherlands...avoid!

WaMu over 'ere
Co-op over there

HSBC shit both over 'ere and there....

My company almost went bankrupt because HSBC arbitrarily withdrew a banking facility and had 'forgotten' to let us know....

I've been with Lloyds for 20 years but about to switch to First Direct.

Although I haven't had any problems with Lloyds, I recently tried to cancel a Credit Card with them and the conversation went something like this:-

ME : I'd like to cancel the card please because I don't use it.

"No problem, I'll transfer you to our cancellations department".

Approximately 20 minutes later...the phone was answered by someone who barely spoke English. Obviously working from a Script, perhaps overseas.

ME : I'd like to cancel my account please.

"I notice you qualify for an interest free period on this account."

ME : No thanks. I don't have a balance to transfer. I'd just like to close the account.

"I can waive the Balance Transfer fee and let you have it for 6 months"

ME : No - as I've already said I don't have a balance to transfer.

"Or I can give you 5.6% for the life of the balance".

ME: What balance? I'm not sure if you're listening to me? I don't have a balance to transfer!?

"You realise you don't have to pay anything to keep the account open"

ME : Yes, I've had the card for several years. I know how it operates.

"You're covered against identity theft and online fraud insurance"

ME : That's all very well. But if I close the account I can save you the bother.

"My last offer. I can give you 0% for 12 months and waive the transfer fee.

:annoyed:

Is it any wonder people get in to so much debt?

Two joint accounts - First Direct, my pay goes into, and I spend from...Lloyds TSB (cos my husband works for them), which his pay goes into, and I spend from!

What could be better?

But I would definitely recommend First Direct.
