The 60's England were solid & efficient but Sir Alf's Wingless Wonders had nowhere near the flair of the Brazil team that won the 1970 World Cup.

Dig that out and take a look, some of the things they did were quite stunning and all seemed to be at a casual pace.

I also really liked the Dutch team or the 74-78 period.

Agreed. At club level, I think the Ajax team of 1972 was incredible, especially the way they pinned Inter Milan in their own penalty area for almost the whole of the European Cup Final that year.

rotherham united from 2000-2004

pollitt between the sticks, martin mcintosh and chris swailes were GIANTS at the back, chris sedgwick and andy monkhouse RAMPAGING down the wings, and a front two comprising of either the man who kept alex ferguson in a job in mark robins, darren byfield, richie barker, or of course, alan lee

and all masterminded over by the fabulous ronnie moore. brings a tear to the eye just thinking about it

not an Arsenal fan but you've got to take your hat off to them the "unbeatable" era .. some of the skill there was unbelievable

I would say in World terms it has to be the Brazil side from the 70's, although the Dutch team mentioned above pushes them pretty close. In club terms, I would say the Arsenal team just before they left Highbury with Henry at his best, their brand of fast flowing football could take the breath away at times with its beauty.

The Hungarian side from the 1950s took some beating. Between 1952 and 1956 they lost one match, the 1954 world cup final, surrendering a two goal lead to West Germany, despite having beaten them 8-3 in the group stages earlier in the tournament. During this run they also famously best England 6-3 at Wembley and then 7-1 the following year in Budapest (England's heaviest ever defeat). Puskas scored 84 in 85.

Brazil 1958 - 1970. I think I'm right in saying Brazil never lost a single match when Pele and Garrincha played together.

Real Madrid 1956 - 1960. Five consecutive European Cups says it all.

The current Barcelona side is pretty special I think, but clearly yet to achieve anything that could allow anyone to claim them to be the world's best ever side.

Really pleased to see the Arsenal side of 2004 and Hungarians of 1950s mentioned here. I hated them at the time when I was at school, but the Liverpool side of 1988 was awesome, probably their best ever.
