I suppose this sort of counts. Back in 1974, at the Dome, I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd supporting Golden Earring. Half the audience left before the Dutch band made their entrance . . . . I wonder why?
Status quo loads of times at The Big Apple. David Bowie supporting The Groundhogs at The Dome. I'm sure I saw Tom Petty and the heartbreakers as the support act at The Dome circa 1976, but I can't remember who was headlining.
saw Dire Straits supporting Talkings Heads at the Top Rank , only about 200 were there 1978 ish
Was there at the first one...top gigThin Lizzy and Suzi Quattro supporting Slade.
Alex Harvey Band, again supporting Slade.
Both concerts in Brighton.
Petty Supported Nils Lofgren at The Dome on 12 May 1977. I think I saw him at The Dome twice. He headlined at The Brighton Centre on 12 Dec 1982. (long after dark tour). I remember being ambivalent about that one at the time. I'd crawl across hot coals to see Petty in concert now!
You could say Gallgher & Lyle sort of became famous they were also a support act at the same concert
Warsaw supporting Buzzcocks
In Brighton? I was at that one, for some reason I got hold of one of the drumsticks after they finished the show.
Seems that the audience at the Dome Supertramp supported by Chris de Burgh and Gallagher & Lyle were all future NSC members. I was there also, and seem to recall that on a later tour Supertramp were supported by Joan Armatrading at the Dome which I saw.
UB40 supporting the Pretenders at the Top Rank. I thought UB40 were rubbish and still do.
