At Brighton on Saturday, there were 46 seconds between the ball going out of play for a corner and Nwaneri being booked.

You could understand him taking his time, given Arsenal were a goal up and moments away from the half-time whistle. They wanted to give Brighton as little chance as possible to get the ball down the other end of the pitch should they clear it.

But Nwaneri was warned by referee Anthony Taylor after 28 seconds and then proceeded to wait another 18 seconds before Taylor lost patience. They have now picked up more yellow cards for time-wasting in the first half of games this season (3) than any other Premier League team in 2024-25.

Most yellow cards for time-wasting

1st - Arsenal - 9
11th (tied) - Albion - 3

Average Time Taken to Restart Play

1st - Nottingham Forest - 32.1 seconds
6th (tied) - Albion - 29.9 seconds

Two of those bookings were for Bart - wonder who the other offender was.

I'm sure a lot of our time taken to restart play comes from throw-ins, we never seem to have anyone ready to receive a quick throw.

That might be right.

That article has a table of the time it takes teams to take corners, but it only lists the top 10 and we're not in that.

Arsenal, surprise surprise, take the longest at 47.9 seconds. Palace are 10th and take 35.3 seconds.

Probably but I also think we take too long to take goal kicks. Some combination of the following: Bart waits for all players to get in position; Dunk and/or JPvH pick up the ball and wait to throw it to Bart; and some other stuff that I can't currently think of.

Almost a whole ten seconds more than the second side hahahaha.

I'm sure it's all just a conspiracy though.

Really need a table to show average time to restart when winning, and a more narrow average time to restart when winning from 80th minute.

I'm sure that both Arsenal and Villa would be some distance clear at the top of the table.

With our game management we are probably way down the table.

I also believe that Villa have data on the amount of time they can waste by referee to avoid yellow cards, hence one of their coaches giving signals from the bench to when they need to restart the game.

Nwaneri time wasting from that corner was probably the worst I’ve ever seen. Warned multiple times. Kept just standing there. Could have booked him twice.

& the season before when Arsenal were taking soooo long about goal celebrations and slowly walking back to the half way line. Each time ignoring the refs call to hurry up.

It seems in recent years this timewasting is really being actively coached into Arsenal players.

All very good points, particularly the first.
Still no-one has mentioned BehEddie on this thread, so I'll get in first.

Brighton factually.....
You need to watch a full (not highlights) away match for the Albion. Whilst not as bad as most, we still do our fair share of timewasting.
Tend to agree, I mean 3 seconds between us and Arsenal, is this even worth lording it over anyone.
It is what it is, perhaps if we did time waste a little more we may not have drawn 2-2 twice

The 9 yellow cards v 3 is somewhat more significant.

Or, to put it another way, time-wasting yellow cards:

Arsenal: 9
Albion, Brentford, Spurs, Liverpool, Southampton and Leicester combined: also 9
