Neither are likely, but both are possible.

Win the FA Cup and finish 9th again, or finish 4th.

The thing is, that's not an honour is it? On that basis I'd like us to actually win something for once AND play in Europe anyway. Who knows, Middlesbrough and Fulham both got to the final of the Europa league in recent times and winning it these days means a place in the UCL the following season.

Champions League would be fun, but we'd likely get whupped, and that would be the end of that.

To win the FA Cup though (and then still have Europe to look forward to next season) - that lasts forever, nobody can take that away. To actually see us win a major trophy would be incredible. And it'd be one in the eye for that filth up the road as well.

[edit] AND we can then get those triangular corner flags at the Amex. No brainer.

Bet on us to finish 4th (this year) at the end of last season. Potter leaving dented that optimism, but we have an incredible squad and a first team that can give anyone a real game in this league. But we'll need luck with injuries, a firm resolve to resist predatory clubs in January and for RDZ to tweak and add to GPott's alchemy.

From last season to that would be amazing for a 'team like Brighton' and gives us more to build upon the following season, and a trophy. Do not want to be a flash-in-the-pan, Burnley, Wolves, Leicester-type team. Sustainable growth.

If you would prefer Palace to be relegated it's head wobble time chaps. That's saying that their seasonal outcome is more important than ours.

Maybe someone who prefers that option could explain it to me.

I thought this would be a tight poll. It's all about whether you prefer a trophy, and a lesser European tour but the chance for a UCL tour the following year, or the plain old media-driven glory of a UCL place but the likelihood of our better players sticking around for another season.

Brighton factually.....
To be seen all around the world winning the FA cup and gaining a place in Europe would be amazing, The Champions League would be also amazing, but let us be honest, hardly going to get a realistic chance of winning that, but if Rangers can get to a final and nearly win it, the Frankfurt scenario is not out of our reach and we could then qualify as winners the next season.

But to win at Wembley would be glorious, the semi final and more so the play off final still hurt, we need to win there once in my lifetime please...

Our name forever etched on the cup, beats finishing 4th and going out in the group stages any day.
We win we get our European adventure anyway, no brainer

Yep. FA Cup is a proper achievement. Finishing 4th and getting humbled in Europe would be interesting but means little long term. Europa League is a good incremental step up which might lead to 4th in a future season, when we have more experience of Europe, and better prepared to compete.

But 4th and CL would still be amazing!

Agree. Let's remember both Fulham and Middlesborough reached the final so it would be a good fantastic. That said, getting past a few minnows in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League and being in a group with the likes of Barcelona or Milan etc would be stunning and finishing 3rd in the group would take us into the later stages of the Europa league (win that and you're in the CL again).
