Surely the thing to do on NYE is go to a friends house for drinks or parties and that? Cos I agree with Danny, it's a rip off when you're making a night of it in a pub or club or whatever.

Exactly.

There is a MASSIVE middle ground between hanging around a football message board on your own at midnight and going to a club and spending shitloads.

Can I ask why posting on here on new years eve means you "have no life"?
As opposed to posting on here, say any other Friday night at midnight?

NYE is the most over-priced, over hyped night of the year. Most clubs will be charging £30-50 just to get in and that will entail standing in a sweaty, overcrowded room spending most of the night looking for lost friends or queing at the bar. I may very well stay in this year so if you really want someone to post at 12.01 so you can rip the piss I'll volunteer

The club im going to is being held at the old market in hove and its £12 to get in

There'd be nothing worse at the moment than being at a club/pub or party on New Year's Eve and being surrounded by people shit-faced that only seem to go out THIS night and being ripped off.

I'll be sound asleep but probably get woken up by bloody fireworks.

Regardless of what you think of the significance, it's still nice to be with people at the time.

Why? If your outlook is that it's no different to any other night of the year, that it is an arbitrarily picked day to recognise a complete cycle of the earth around the sun, and at that a more than complete cycle of the earth round the sun, what with it not being really exact, why should you feel obligated to make the effort to meet up with friends

Shouldn't it be more pertinent to ask which UK-based NSCer is going to be first?

Why more pertinent? If someone posts from a different time-zone somewhere in the east, they'll still get a good old Blighty server timestamp!
