[Misc] Which decade made you ?

Late 1960s and 1970s for me end of the Beatles then following their solo albums Heavy metal Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin then Punk I was absolutely blown away by the rawness and subject matter where nothing was out of bounds an explosion of creativity and like an explosion it was all over.
outside of music but a clear reflection of the time three day weeks, Unions fighting to stop the decline and inevitable end of British manufacturing.
The left of centre Labour Party and the gentle right of centre one nation Conservatives who either believed in the NHS, Council estates, public ownership or at the very least didn’t want to weaponise and sell off the nation but by the end of the 1970s all that was to change if we think today’s Conservative Party is at best incompetent riddled by far right nut cases then Thatchers was devious insidious playing to the base wants and base greed of the public Thatcher was the devil incarnate evil pure evil.
These are the events that shaped my beliefs and life and they are unchanged I still listen to metal and Punk I believe the nation would be better with a left of centre Labour Government delivering a socialist society

My mates say I should write a book about my life, it's been a mad journey but I'm glad it's settled now. I met my Mrs almost 10 years ago and she's played a huge part in helping me focus on what matters.

70s for Uni, great friends, meeting Mrs DiS, music.

The 80’s.

Found the freedom from being under parental control, I grew in confidence, discovered the wonders of gigs, drinking, dance, clubbing, lads holidays and more. Incredibly lucky to live in Brighton.

80’s for me too, and I echo the above.

That said, it did instil a level of selfishness/expectation in me. Life was good still living at home, and it was all too easy to be anti government as I had no responsibilities other than my cock. I rallied against anything that might curtail my fun, like the Poll Tax.

It was only later I learnt that jobs were not always east to come by, and that things actually had to be be both worked for and paid for. Led to a change in my political persuasion which has endured to this day, but hopefully now I can see both the benefits and drawbacks of capitalism and socialism equally.

Born in 69, the 70s for me were a roller coaster mentally as a child as I have mentioned before.
Dragged up north at the start of the 80s, being a teenager and falling in love with music, gigs, festivals in Manchester was fantastic.
Early 90s moved to Camden to be close the Psycho/Rockin scene, out every night practically wasted all my money on drugs, drink and ladies, probably had what I thought at the time was the best time of my life and it was great 80s/90s.
Met my wife early 2000s and got married within 6 months, when you know you know, we still gigged, and travelled around the world then along came a daughter 2009.
Back to Brighton, and I am still having the time of my life watching my daughter grow up, and herself fall in love with the Albion, she plays at the academy (you can't dream that) we still go to gigs and festivals, not so much for the music anymore, more to see my friends.

Life like everyone's has had it's trials and close shaves, who knows really what you best decade is, it may still be yet be round the corner.

If I had to pick I guess the 80s was raw and edgy and so exciting and I was young, dumb and made some very stupid choices that I still regret, but they shape you, and as long as you learn from mistakes, make you a better person.
I probably enjoyed the 90s in a drug and alcohol haze.
80s and 90s would be a selfish choice.
So 2000s surprisingly I would pick, when I met my wife and we had so much fun, and of course my beautiful daughter was born 2009 and the start of the next chapter of my life back home in Brighton with at a last a family that is my own and I am proud of.

I think the 1990s for me.

70s child born in Scotland. Grew up in a Scottish council scheme. I was one of the ‘lucky’ ones that Thatcher tried out the Poll Tax on when I turned 18 before they rolled it out to the rest of the UK. My anti-Tory beliefs started then.

Managed to escape my family in the late 1980s and did my Nursing training. Moved down to london. Spent the 1990s hanging out and living in Camden going to gigs, getting wasted and working hard. Met my Sussex born husband (introduction to the Albion). Loved the 1990s!

Moved to Brighton in the early 2000s and feel that this is my home now.

I am going to split it. 1965 - 1975 . Wonderful music that I was now old enough to go out and find live . I started as a spotty youth and by 75 I was married, had traveled to the States , had friends and was set up .

Mid 90’s rave scene whilst still at school before rolling into the early 00’s with an education in life courtesy of binge drinking around various BN1 establishments, lovely stuff.

An era I look back on fondly, limited camera phones, no needs for likes or validation as is the world today

70s for music, school, friends, Uni and the first major phase of my BHA love affair - that promotion season in ‘72?, Wardy, Mullers etc
BUT
in terms of my life undoubtedly the Noughties - end of unhappy first marriage and the start of a fantastic(and still continuing) life both professionally and personally with the outstanding Mrs Corner, numerous dogs and the wonder that BHA has become! Roll on the future!

I could easily say I had a better time in the early 00's, but it was the 90's that had a greater influence on the directions I would take in my life

The 80s - although I loved the late 70s too - mainly for music and football.

Left 6th form in 1980s and started work - left home in 1981 - great times.....

70's ..... without doubt the most eclectic, influential and enduring decade of music and fashion..... it was also the decade that I first saw the Albion 1st game of 74/75 season, Palace at home.... it took me from boy to man.

Born in '55 so 100% a 70's boy.
Glam rock arrived as I was 17 and a satin suit from Chelsea Girl (a-la Marc Bolan) was my 'going out' wear. The era of the 'house party', Radio 1 and all that stuff, life was good. Qualified as an electrician, gave it up. Passed many wines & spirits exams whilst working an Off Licence, gave it up. Already decided to be a DJ and so that sort of took over my life. By the time the 80's arrived and I was 25 I'd lived my life and it was time to get married and have a family, but still DJing.
Strange thing is I see myself in my second Daughter who has had three occupations by the age of 30, all of them could have set her up for life.

I’d hope each decade continues to see growth and development, as it should. I’m not dead yet!

Nevertheless, I came of age in the 1990’s. Pubs, parties, birds, mates, lads holiday. Made friends that I still meet regularly. Moved to Brighton in ‘98. All the good stuff.

2000’s I settled down. Shared place with the long term partner etc.

2010’s it went a bit diverse. Split up with the aforementioned girlfiend. Dated a series of unsuitable women. Partied too hard.

I was working all over the place with stunt work in TV and film and having lots of fun. Lived in hotels and trailers. Rarely going home to my rented place above a pub on the outskirts of London.

I also lost my Mum and Dad to cancer and my older brother to a heart condition. He was only 39. I think that threw me off course a little.


Not a very I settled time. But it also shaped me.

2020’s. More settled again. Permanent place to live. Got a job working with Sussex police. Still do occasional stunt jobs but don’t rely on it for an income now. That was exhausting !
Good income. See lots of my friends and family. It’s a better place to be.

Last couple of years at school, left School, got a job, moved out, a bit hazy on the majority of details over the next 10 years, then met Mrs Wz

78-88. Punk/New wave/new glam. Did somewhere around 1000 gigs all over the place, mostly London and Brighton. Got a decent job at BT and stayed for 35 years. Moved out and bought a flat. Had a few holidays abroad with my mates.
1988ish it all went a bit pear-shaped, I got into drinking a lot (lunchtime and evening 7 days a week, occasionally missing Sunday lunchtime to go to see my mum), got out of the gig culture (and pretty much everything else not booze related).
