Haywards Heath
Ward > Bennett
Upson > Hughes
Hammond > Stephens
Buckley > March (injured)
Barnes > Baldock (injured)
Ulloa > O'Grady.

Not to mention

Kuszczak > Stockdale
Bridcutt > Toko
Orlandi > McCourt

No upgrades there whatsoever. All facts, grim reading.

I would say the only improvement is possibly Stephens on Hammond which is debatable as is possibly Baldock and Barnes the rest are unquestionably weaker.

People have very selective memories. Let's break down the players from the AMEX era.

PIG: 2nd choice at Wolves
Brez: League Two

Elphick: Bournemouth (on verge of promotion)
Cook: As above
AEA: On loan in league two
Upson: PL with Leicester
Painter: Retired
Ward: PL with Burnley
Bridge: Retired

Bridcutt: Sunderland PL but out of his depth
Navarro: Retired
Vincelot: League One
Sparrow: On loan in league two
Dicker: League two
Harley: League two
Vicente: Retired
Orlandi: Playing for relegated Blackpool
Spanish Dave: Playing in La Liga
Noone: Cardiff
Buckley: PL with Sunderland

Barnes: PL with Burnley
Ulloa: PL with Leicester
Hoskins: Forever injured but still in League Two

Have the club made mistakes? Yes but there seems to be a pretty even split between our players either going on to better things and playing their trade at lower levels. IMO we miss Ulloa the most followed by Barnes, Upson and Ward. Most of the others have either flopped at their new clubs (Bridcutt, Orlandi) or plummeted down the leagues. Time to stop living in the rose tinted past and starting looking to the future.

Excellent post although I disagree with missing Ulloa more than Barnes. I would say it's the other way round.

Somehow you missed the mighty David Gonzalez, who went straight to Barnsley after us and is now playing in the top division. In Colombia.

Nobody is seriously thinking we should get Gerry Ryan back are they??!! ……………… He's still injured.

He'd still be faster than *insert name of most recent scapegoat here*

Suggests that talent identification and player development aren't the club's Achilles' heel. By the numbers playing in the PL, the opposite case could be made, that this is a BHA strength

The majority of our ex players are sadly no longer with us. Pretty much all of the players who wore the blue and white from 1900 to 1950s have passed on and some from 60s onwards too.

A very small minority more recently have reached the Premiership.

Why's that? Unhealthy lifestyle?
