I hand't realised just how cheap our team was until a Wolves friend pointed it out in their programme. They did it in an admiring way seeing as they had a 2 million pound player (Olofinjana) just bench warming.

MK free
PW £10,000
KM trainee
AN free
LK £100,00
GH £1000 & a set of kit
CO £10,000
RC free
GB free
NJ free
PR free
MM free
AJ free
AV trainee
CMcP trainee
DH trainee
AH trainee
DH trainee
AEA trainee

Total £121,000 (so in profit by selling Currie and Cullip) and still beating Leeds, Leicester, Forest, West Ham etc etc :lolol:

LK cost less than £100k

I thought that's what we had to pay Chelsea when we got promoted?

I have copied what the Wolves programme said, presumably info provided by our club. I cannot remember what we paid last week let alone last season :D

It's good that most of Micky Adams' players, mainly picked up for free, have lasted so long.

Although saying that, were are the likes of Ryan Palmer, Darren Freeman and Jamie Campbell now?

When all said and done. If you tot up the total purchase price of our entire squad it comes to circa £121k (+ a kit for OGH).

Is there any other club in the four English professional football leagues that were bought for less?

Off you go statto's

Ryan Palmer was at Sutton.
Darren Freemans last club was Three Bridges
Jamie Campbell was at Exeter. Dunno if he's still there.

Darren Freeman retired from the pro game through injury. He was quality & we could do with him now.

I couldn't resist the challenge to investigate the transfer fees that have been shelled out by all of the Championship clubs, and it ties in with a job I'm doing for our local rag anyway, so I got to work earlier.

The following is a list of the total transfer fees that have been paid out by each Championship club for players that are currently listed in their first team squads. Fees that they paid for players who are out on loan at other clubs are not included. The fees listed are those that are quoted for each player in this year's edition of the Official PFA Footballers Factfile. They do not include any potential add-ons.

The list is as follows:

WEST HAM UNITED - £17,350,000
SUNDERLAND - £16,380,000
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS - £16,350,000
LEEDS UNITED - £10,350,000
LEICESTER CITY - £9,970,000
CARDIFF CITY - £6,525,000
WIGAN ATHLETIC - £5,380,000
NOTTINGHAM FOREST - £5,175,000
WATFORD - £3,305,000
PRESTON NORTH END - £3,180,000
READING - £2,775,000
BURNLEY - £2,305,000
IPSWICH TOWN - £1,882,500
MILLWALL - £1,460,000
COVENTRY CITY - £1,200,000
QUEENS PARK RANGERS - £1,150,000
SHEFFIELD UNITED - £1,000,000
GILLINGHAM - £755,000
ROTHERHAM - £580,000
STOKE CITY - £445,000
DERBY COUNTY - £280,000
CREWE ALEXANDRA - £275,000
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE - £155,000
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION - £131,000

I should point out that £7,000,000 of the money spent by Leeds United went on long-term injury victim Seth Johnson. More than half of the money spent by Nottingham Forest went on David Johnson (£3,000,000), while the majority of Coventry's total is taken up by the £1,000,000 they paid for Richard Shaw way back in November 1995.

Brighton, Ipswich and QPR have paid fees for only four of their current first team squad, Stoke and Plymouth have paid for just three players, while Coventry and Derby have paid for just two each.

I reckon these figures show what outstanding jobs the likes of Joe Royle, Neil Warnock, Tony Pulis, George Burley and Mark McGhee have been doing at their respective clubs, while the progress at Plymouth has been quite phenomenal given the fact they have spent so little.

The figures also highlight what a dreadful mess Alan Cork and Lennie Lawrence made in the transfer market. It's no surprise that we're £30,000,000 in debt given the money that those two idiots have wasted.

Plymouth have just signed Scott Taylor from Blackpool for £100000 so we now have the cheapest squad.
