A West Ham insider claims he knows. The story goes that on Alan Curbishley's first away game as manager Sheringham sat on the team bus playing cards for money with some of the younger members of the team. He cleaned most of them out, one for at least 20 grand.

Curbishley is said to have told Teddy to cancel all the bets, or he'd never play for the Hammers again. Looking at the young, lippy, Bentley-owning, non-entities...

Sheringham refused.

I don't think that is bollocks. He certainly likes his gambling and I could imagine that sort of thing being prevalent in football. Doesn't he promote one of these gambling companies and take part in Poker games on TV?

Ok, I'll take it back then, but he's still too old to play in the Premiership.

Curbishley's first away game was at Fulham.....about a 15 minute coach trip. Not a great deal of time to win all those thousands.

And then, Teddy came on as sub in the very next home game.

He'd obviously repaid the 75p he won on his trip to Fulham.

He probably bet his place in the team and has been trying to win it back since

Fair enough, I did say it was from another website.

Why do you think he was not playing, it does seem a little strange, he still looks a class act, or have his legs gone?

Will Sheringham ever retire from the wonderful game or will he be a sad muppet like Shilton who thinks it's cool to play well into your late 40's and think you still look good ??

Sounds about right. Was definitely to do with gambling in Jan/Feb.

it sounds about right, because thats what popbitch does, makes up stuff, or regurgitates made up stuff, that has just enough credibility that you go along with it.

you can believe him clearing the others out, but i reckon he'd have flounced if not played over this.

I honestly don't think there was anything sinister with him not playing.

Tevez and Bobby had formed a good partnership and the team was pretty settled for the last 9 games. With Harewood, Carlton Cole and Keppa Blanco waiting in the wings, he was 6th choice striker.

He has officially left us....well he will on June 1st when his contract runs out. I think he might take up a player-coach role with a championship or league one club. Personally don't think he's ready for management full time yet.

Either that or Harry will sign him at Pompey as usual :lolol:
