The whole issue of immigration needs a public discussion but whenever a government brings up the subject someone shouts racism and as aresult no-one dares mention the subject.

Looking at some of the glib shit posted on this thread, is it any wonder this accusation is made? I for one don't trust the 'public' to hold such a discussion objectively, there are too many people out there who are racist, and can't consider this complex issue intelligently as a result.

The population structure of the UK is changing dramatically. In a few years time we will have a much higher number of older, non-working people and a much smaller workforce paying (one way or another) the costs of sustaining older people.

What this country needs is a bigger workforce, generating wealth to keep the whole country prosperous.

If we can't grow our own workforce, maybe we should recognise that we need to import one.

why is it extremely difficult? At the end of the day we have god knows how many illegal immigrants running round the country being payed for by us when theres other more important things we should be paying money out on.

There has to be a quick and simple method for deciding who should stay and who should go and if they should go then no more money should be payed out to them, if they are deemed to be genuine then fair play to them they should be given some benefits
