Cucurella and Ben White were only with us for a season. We rejected £70m for Caicedo after less than 1 season.

I suspect the club factor in the playing value they are being denied in these negotiations.

This is the sort of stuff I’d ignore on Twitter, no way to prove if it’s true or not, and the person writing it knows that. Could be true but likely not and just someone trying to make themselves look “in the know”.

I’m sure Alexis could have stopped his father and family angling for the move by (according to if you believe Romano) meeting with other clubs since January.

I love Alexis but find the idea that just because he’s played for us and acted respectfully in himself, that he’s somehow earned a move away.

They'll factor in time left on contract, which is why Bissouma and Trossard went for around 30m each. We're not going to be giving a discount on a player just because we've got a good 3 seasons out of him; we don't owe the buying club anything and it'd be terrible business. A player is worth what the market says he's worth.

It suits us for the news to be that we received moderate money when we're looking to buy Colwill etc. However, it's less helpful when we're trying to discourage activity to buy other players.

We may have specified a certain amount of it as cash and negotiated on add ons.

Just speculating, but I can't believe we don't start at £50m for our higher profile young players.

Yes, and also that Liverpool are club that (incredibly) we are now in direct competition for a league position with.

Continually selling the cream of our talent to Scousers, Chelsea etc makes it very hard for us to finish 6th place again.

Okay. But why are multiple media outlets reporting that he is joining Liverpool? Why are multiple outlets reporting that there is a release clause, and why on earth would we even be entertaining offers as low this if there wasn't one?
If there was no release clause and Mac Snr wasn't set on Liverpool where are the links to Chelsea to Newcastle etc?

If it is £45m plus add ons up to £60m is not terrible IMO for a player who

1. Got less goal contributions than Gross (even with pens)
2. Would’ve been out of contract and gone for nothing if the release clause wasn’t inserted.
3. A Postion which we already have a short term and a long term replacement and is a very available position.
4. The amount of money he has brought to the club by contributing to us qualifying for Europe is all down to keeping him until the summer. We may have got £15m more in January but we wouldn’t have qualified for Europe meaning the club would be lot more out of pocket than £15m.

It’ll all go down as undisclosed anyway and we’ll never know giving us a good position to negotiate other transfers especially if it is under reported.

If there was no release clause the first thing we'd be hearing, as standard for all transfers, is Liverpool have made a bid. That hasn't been mentioned ONCE. No bid because there's no bid to make.

i suspect a relatively low buy out clause was included in his new contract after he came to us and said he’d like to move on either in January or the summer. We negotiated and said that we won’t stand in his way if he gives his all for the rest of the season to help us achieve European qualification. We will pay him like a top 6 club would and include a buy out clause for assurance that he can go with our best regards at the end of the season. Qualifying for Europe and selling for £45m (?) is a better deal than a team coming in in January or now when he’s only got 18/12 months left and getting much less. £45m is less than we fans probably expected, but it may have been the best figure possible given our hand.

Have only seen David Ornstein in The Athletic report any sort of release clause, which to quote was:

"This is thought not to be a typical release clause other clubs may simply trigger, leaving the player to choose their next step, but a more complex feature that gives Brighton a say over the outcome.

As a result, the situation is not a foregone conclusion and there is no agreement in place for Mac Allister to leave the Amex Stadium.”

This has been picked up by bedroom journalists around the world.
