Where can I get Microsoft Office cheaply?

Any suggestions NSC?

I'm currently relying on a demo of Office 2007, but that's going to expire at the end of January.

I don't mind if someone has to PM me a response.. *nudge nudge, wink wink*

I'm just a bit reluctant to fork out a hundred quid for it. Oh, and i don't mind if it's the 97 version, I could just do with Word and Excel.

Thanks in advance.
:)

I hadn't even thought of Downloading it.

Although i expect my 2GB download limit might hamper my chances of that.

Thanks though, will investigate.

(Any more suggestions most welcome.)

2GB would be enough but I suggest you look for a legitimate copy on Ebay.

When I downloaded it I only had 512k. Started it off before going to bed and it was done in the morning. Failing that get someone with 8mb to download it for you and stick it on disk.

Ask around some friends, especially those who work for Government. There are deals that can be had through the Microsoft Partnering Scheme (I got Office 03 for £17 before I left my last job!) Ministry of Defence have a deal, and I believe that local government may have the same deal running, but you would need to ask. Failing that, go for the educational discount, find a small relative who is in full time education and it knocks some £ off the price.

I got Office for the Mac and VPC for the Mac for €2 through said scheme, about all they are worth tbh :jester:

I think the speed isn't the issue, Wardy, its that he has a 2GB cap and gets charged for going over that.

Doh miss read the post. In that case get someone else to download for you. I will have a look when I get home and if I have time will download it and stick it in the post for you.

Thanks kindly for the offers and advice people, will have a look at downloading it (of course, I won't actually download it.... ;) ), and if that doesn't work I'll have a look on ebay, or maybe get someone to burn me a copy.

Cheers:)

I may have a version of office, bought in '99 with a student discount. Can't remember the exact version, 98? I will see if I can dig it out and it is yours if you want it.

97 was the newest then.

Oo_O is better than any version up to and including 2000 and, depending on what level of database features you need or how insane your pivot tables are, is better than XP/2003 in most ways.

For someone who just needs to write documents, its absolutely fine. It can handle Office documents no bother.
