Colchester Away in the league. It was the "1 nil to the one man team" game. Same day as the Queen Mum died.

2 spring to mind, Bristol City when they beat us 5 something or other and Charlton when they were sharing with the other clowns, Nelson scored early, we all stood up and were promptly escorted down to pitch side and up passed the Albion fans who thought we were Charlton and proceeded to climb the fences spitting at us as we were marched up to the Oolice pits cabins in Whitehorse Ln.

I think I remember that! I think most people thought you were Palace, rather than Charlton. From memory we were in the open corner of the Holmesdale and Arthur Waite, I don’t think there were that many of us, only 1500 or so.

As a 16 year old in1972, away to pompey and my 1st away game. I foolishly listened to other supporters on the train down who said they were going into the home end. After punchups galore before the game with running to and fro, me, my brother and two mates went into the home end expecting to see fellow Brighton supporters in there as well. . . .nope not one. Luckily we had the same colour blue bar scarfs as the locals and blended in. We had to keep the conversation to a minimum as to not give ourselves away.

That was a very scary away game. Someone at work organised a coach. We stopped to get off just outside the ground and as soon as the coach doors opened, two huge blokes dressed in car mechanic garb suddenly appeared. One of them shouted "Are you from Broyton?" he barked in a considerably frightening loud and local accent. I thought quickly and shouted back "Noll. We'rre Pompey!" in a similar tone and accent. They left us alone. We got off of the coach and there were people running around all over the place. We tried to get in to the Fratton End by the little house thingy, and there was a welcoming party of Pompey yobs stopping anyone from Brighton getting anywhere near the ground. That explains why if you did get in, as we did, there were very few if any Albion in there and any that did and got sussed, they got a good kicking. I saw one poor lad getting his head smashed against the wall of the stand opposite to where the tv gantry is.
If ever there was a game when you kept your mouth firmly closed, this was it.
Oh, I miss the good old days!

5th Feb away v Arsenal.

Went to the game with one of our companies clients who was an Arsenal fan so naturally we went into the North Bank. I didn't have much reason to cheer as we were 3-0 down when we got our consolation goal!

The ultimate one for me was on May 3, 1997. Got the tickets through a relative who lived nearby as they weren’t selling to anyone from outside the area and I hadn’t managed to get any tickets from Albion. It got rather tasty in there more than once, more than a few proudly with bloodied shirts and noses and looking for anyone who they weren’t related to as by definition they couldn’t be locals!

It was mayhem when they scored, and when we equalised I half bit my lip off. We moved a couple of times for our own safety/sanity and although they knew around us where our allegiances were we did at last feel we had half a chance of making it out alive compared to if we’d stayed where we first stood.

Still worth it anyway, a great view of the Albion fans celebrating and we stayed a bit longer than most in that end who had trudged off as soon as the whistle went!

West ham away at the old boleyn ground......just a bit wary of looks when I couldn't resist celebrating our goal although we lost eventually.

Same for me, would have been mid 2000s, after we got promoted in the play offs to the Champ. I think we smash and grabbed a draw and am very grateful to my gf of the time who held me down by my coat when we scored late on as she probably saved me a massive shooing

Maybe that was a later policy once they realised what was going on, but mine was sent home in Brighton. It was commented on much at the time. I was in the second tier seats to the right of the Albion fans.

I was asked by a group sitting next to me where I was from and told them I was from Bournemouth and was touring the 92 grounds.

Even funnier, such was the poor security, at the final whistle I managed to get out and sneak round to celebrate in with the Albion fans.

For the first half (before I moved) I was in a block full of singing nutters most of whom I reckon had been snorting powder before kick-off.
I even joined in with a chorus of 'No One Like Us' to avoid any suspicion.

I was in the home end with my Millwall supporting fella, we were in the same seats as we normally sit in when we go, so everyone around us would have thought I was Millwall supporter. When we scored our goals and won the penatly shoot out it was so difficult not to celebrate. I so wanted to be in the way end celebrating with all our fans.

Once we were on the train from London Bridge I finally could celebrate

Started to be interviewed as to history of club and where we went to school, told them we’ve all been released on licence recently due to aggregated burglary and they were satisfied with this response

Can't remember the exact year. We won 1-0 at Bristol City. I had only been able to get a ticket in one of the home stands. I cheered Kuipers for stopping shots on goal on a couple of occasions. The first time I got a few looks and the second time some vitriol and expletives from those around me. I managed to persuade them I was merely applauding good play by the oppo goalie who was having a good game. Then Bobby Z scored what would turn out to be the winner for us and I was punching the air etc. Again, I told them I was merely appreciative of exceptionally good play and a great goal. They half bought it but I was v pleased to leave ASAP at the final whistle!

A few:

The Old Shed End, went with an old school mate who supported Chelsea. given that until the Welbeck header we never scored at the Bridge, I had nothing to celebrate, and just had to look pleased when Chelsea scored.

Hull away in the FA Cup 1986. I clearly didn't fit in, as I was about the only person in the stand not shouting out racist abuse every time Connor, Young or Fashanu touched the ball, or came close to the stand.

Also Upton Park and Fratton Park, where we lost each time, although had to refrain celebrating when we took the lead.

Couple of memories from when I was in with a loud of aggressive West Ham fans when we won 1-0 away in 2004.
“What the f*** is that you bunch of gay f*cking c*nts” when Albion fans did the Adam el abd phenomenon chant.
And “f*** off back to Brighton Zamora. Where you f***ing belong” when Bobby scuffed one wide for them.
It was an amazing spectacle watching Albion when Butters scored and we won. Wish I’d be in the mix though.
And we had claridge playing. Great day.

30 March 2002 , the day the Queen Mother died, versus Colchester . I was in the home end with a Colchester supporting friend I was staying with for the weekend . Bobby Zamora was injured but the “one man team” won 4-1. Lots of unhappy Colchester fans around me and a BHA friend in the nearby away end kept on waving to me.

As a 15 year old in '75, a mate had just passed his test and got a car so three of us went off to Selhurst without a map or much sense of direction. Having been 'channeled' into the home end, I was very quiet until we scored.

By the time my feet touched the ground, I had turned it into a not very convincing 'f***ing shit'. We moved quite a long way to our right and I'm still here today

In the side stand also as a 15 yo, 0-1 Butlin match I reckon

That was certainly an eye-opener for a baptism of fire for a 1st away game. Still it didn't put me off going back there many times over the years or to other away games.

Cambridge away in August 2001 (0-0). This was our first match since promotion from Div 3.

I phoned up as soon as tickets went on sale, whilst on holiday in the Channel Islands. Only to be told it was postal applications only (how times have changed!) and would sell out from what the club had received.

Got a ticket in the home end and came close to leaping out of my seat when our 10 men came close to nicking a win right at the end
