When you were a YOOF which player did you COPY and want to be most like and why?

For me it was Tony Adams. Solid no nonsence defender and a cracking leader on the pitch.

And number one was....

aaah, you know the rest.

Although, outside the Albion, it would have been Keegan...

...although without the daft perm.

brilliant player - but a bit of a misery and a real tight wad apparently.

Many moons ago I was in the RN with the son of the ex England and blackburn player Ronnie Clayton. Clayton junior said he had met Charlton on a number of occasions and he reckon Charlton was just painfully shy. The only time he would get animated was talking football, said he was a really nice bloke. Don't know about the tight wad bit ....

As a kid I supported Norwich for some reason... nice kit maybe. So I LOVED Martin O'Neill, and even once supported Northern Ireland against England (being egged on by my Dad's Scottish mate I hasten to add).

It's great that he's a top manager too - he reminds me of my childhood everytime he goes mental on TV

Mark Lawrenson although obviously at that time it was as one of the best players ever to wear the stripes rather than his later career as a camp summariser:safeway2:

I even had a Liverpool scarf. Quickly saw the error of my ways and now despise the club and their loathesome fans.

One of the best true profesional footballers that has ever graced a football pitch.... Billy Bonds, my absolute hero.

I wanted the skill and the football brain of Sir Trevor Brooking and the leadership and to run through brickwalls like bonzo.

When the Hammers got rid of Bonzo for Harry twat face talkrapp i was majorly pissed off.

As a budding left back, Kenny Samson was always someone i wanted to emulate.

Overlapping runs up the left wing, whipping searching crosses in, tough tackling when required

I`m reading his Annual at the moment....... great stuff. Has an article about a young Ken Bates taking over at Oldham and then ripping into their fans with his usual diplomatic restraint.
